I have been trying to diagnose a problem with my dads 99 Ford Taurus station wagon. The speedometer randomly goes dead. It seems to be related to having the A/C on for a while on the highway and then slowing down to city speeds. The speedo is completely electronic, no cable, and the transmission uses the speed sensor to determine gear changes. So when the speedo dies, the car runs REALLY ragged and won't change gears at all. The car has ABS and I am trying to figure out if it gets the speedo signal from the ABS sensors or a different vehicle speed sensor that is listed in the manual for the car, but I cant find the sensor anywhere on the car.

I always get good info from you guys so I figured I would ask here. This being a Ford, I dont think I can get much more off-topic and I thought I would get more hits here than in the other cars section.

Does anyone here know much about these cars or know another good forum where I can ask?

Thnx

Andy
