So i was driving my 92 olds achieva today and while cruising i felt something shake under the car. I thought the tranny was about to go, but then the exhaust got real loud. I then pulled over to see that the exhaust broke right before the cat. I don't want to pay anyone to fix it because i've spent more money fixing this car than my rx7. Any ideas of cheap ways to fix it??? minus taking the exhaust off and running open header

get that exhaust fixer tape and then coat that **** with a big pile of epoxy putty. Either that or find a slighly larger pipe to fit over the two broken ends and epoxy over the ends of that...call it a resonator at the inspection station!

Hard to envision perhaps...but I've always had used an Aluminum tin can...and tightly wrapped it either on the OUTSIDE of the two ends where it split open...or on the inside and the two pipes stayed facing each other...

We did this 3-4 times to my 93 Integra before giving up and putting on a new factory one...the actual "Exhaust Repair" kits sound like a better idea though...

On my Subaru I took some muffler tape and covered up the hole in the pipe, then clamped some aluminum over the tape. It lasted many thousands of miles like that.

The only bad thing was it broke off right at the front of the cat, so i couldnt put a bigger pipe to connect them. I just drove 1min. down the road with the exhaust scraping and swinging side to side to my mechanic. Told him to jigger rig it.
