I didn't drive the car, but a guy in my neighborhood owns a 55 bel air. After looking at the thing you would think it was just a bel air with original paint and pretty good shape. Not perfect though. kinda faded. It was a very loud, and supposedly built car. The guy claimed 10's. I didn't know him well enough to call BS, so I didn't. I actually kinda believed him.

One day I walked over to his house while he was finishing up changing something on his carb. he was having problems and getting ready to take his test drive to see if he fixed it. We got in the car and putted around the neighborhood for a few minutes. I kinda lost faith in the car at that point. He would step on the gas a little just to make some noise, but I figured i would have felt at least a little potential at that point. But all i got was the idea that this was just a slow loud chevy. We finally turned out onto the main road. Half way threw our turn, he stepped on it all the way. We were doing 80 mph sideways within seconds from a dead stop. The car had bench seats and no belts, so i was pretty freaked out not having been in a car that fast before (my usual experiences are 13 second cars).

At the top of the hill, where there is a T in the road, his throttle linkage stuck open. We were close to 120 mph and had to stop almost instantly. He had a kill switch under his dash luckily, and we stopped with plenty of room left.

The car has a 496 or something around that size. It's gear driven, so it sounds like its got a huge blower on it, and it runs on alcohol on the street. He hasn't run it since the motor was in an old school camero, and the camero ran a 10.9 with 2/3s the power the motor has now, according to him. So he expects mid 10s this time after the huge weight difference, if not better.

When I turned 17 I bought my dream car at that time. 1970 GTO. well from there on I was hooken on cars, by the time I was 19 that car was 100% modded, and at the track every week. God I miss american muscle. It sure is nice when you punch the gas as you are looking at the stars as you wheelie down the strip!

i used to have a 73 mgb, it was bent and rusty, but it sounded great and it was a convertable, so it was very cool

i also had a 68 mustang, it was big, blue, loud. it was a 4speed coupe with a 4 barrel holley and headers and stuff. the damn thing was HOT to drive, i felt like i was gonna die of heat exhaustion, so i sold it because it was slower than the base 86 fc....

I drove a early 80's TT Bertone (my best friends in HS) with some extras that I was too young to know about. That car made my FB feel HUGE. In fifth at about 115mph the second turbo would spool up and just lay your *** back in the seat... Gives me chills just thinkin about it...

I thought you would get a kick out of this. It was my dad with his 67 Mustang w/ a 289 (making 225 flywheel hp) and 4 speed. It was bone stock and he was sponsored by the local Ford dealership. He would beat the 390 Mustangs with it. He also had a 69 Fastback w/ a 390 in it. Mom drove a Maverick w/ a 302 in it. Motorhead family.

I took him to the Gatornationals about 14 years ago when the top fuel dragsters were flirting w/ 300 MPH in the 1/4. It freaked him out. He remembered the dragters were in the 9's back in the 60's and that was amazing.

I had a 67 and a 68 coupe. I loved them and miss them a lot. I had a 302 in them with a 4 speed and a hurst shifter. I thought I was the bomb in it. I had a mild cam and a 4 bbl. too along with headers and Thrush mufflers the loud ones. It also hadCrager rims and "really fat" 60 series tires on it which was wild back in the early 80's. Man I miss those mustangs.
