Jim- was this the first time you've been in one or driven one?
Yes and Yes.

LOL! I took it around the driving school course and ran a faster time than the owner of the car and the driving instructors from the school.

I was amazed at how well it handled . I was aexpecting those skinny tires to give me all kinds of understeer and they didn't it was actually very well balanced and you could correct steer it with the throttle.

I liked the RHD a lot too. I could easily get used to it. I was expecting to be hitting cones all over the place with it.

Yep, they are very stable cars and make great racers. Driving my RHD truck all the time, you get use to it really quick.

I heard that when they first came out, and people realized how good they handled, they started breaking the centers out of the tiny steel wheels, because they couldn't take the cornering forces. So they had to redesign the wheels.

LBC's are great!

I think it was Paddy Hopkirk who when asked about rallying a Mini said,

"It was like wrestling a bear in a phone both!"

Fun cars that will smack much more expensive cars on a short course.

Mini's make incredible race cars. My dad won his class in back in the 60's with an almost bone stock Cooper S against factory prepped cortinas, lotus, etc. And they still are competitive in Group H and SCCA GT-5. It really is one of the best cars ever made!

What year is that? It's not an original BMC car is it, because the originals had a single speedometer in the dash and nothing else (Austin, Morris, Wosley)

All the early models had a 3 gauge pod in the center console. But a large majority of people have done some upgrading. Legally a mini has to be at least 25 years old to be imported into the states.
