I've heard the roots M90 supercharger in a Thunderbird SC and it makes a kind of ugly high pitched belching sound at WOT.

Has anyone heard a car with a centrifugal charger? They are basically gear driven turbo compressors, so I'm guessing you would hear some gear noise and the whine of the turbine.

I'm pondering my options for boosting my FC, now that I have some fab shop access.

Anyone?

My dad has a Procharger on his truck. It sounds like...a supercharger...higher pitched wine. it's awesome.

I didn't read very far on the supercharger fab thread on the evil forum. The whole project looked hacked and not properly done. I would never run a supercharger at 8 psi on an NA block with:

1. No intercooling

2. Stock ECU

3. Stock injectors

Look at the mile long chain of fools bowing down to the guy who succeded in "hooking up" a supercoupe M90 roots blower to his FCNA. He basically made a bracket, some adapter pipes, an idler pulley, and hooked up a boost gauge. Tells you something about that place, doesn't it?

Thanks for the replies regarding the sound of superchargers, though. I like the idea of instant throttle response and a car that whines a little when it gets in boost. I drove a stock TII once and the (minor) boost lag and need for full pedal to get any torque wasn't my style. I'd rather keep the rotary and charge it instead of dropping in a larger NA engine that has pistons.

here's a quick video of a ls1 with a procharger..Its a whiny type sound at lower RPMS.

Centrifugals build boost with rpms, so i'm not sure instant throttle response will happen then again i don't know how much a FC lacks.

a Roots (screw) type sc like the top fuel cars are instant, but you need to make sure you have the hp to SPOOL it in the first place.

question.... what's the difference between a procharger and a supercharger?

thanks in advance.

True. I just want to avoid the turbo feel of needing to have my foot all the way in the gas in order to get any boost, and then only after a second or two. I drove a TII and didn't like it. The power came on too late IMO.

I like my NA power band. I just wish it was steeper. Hopefully a centrifugal charger's linear boost profile would do the trick. Roots blowers seem to be more prone to need intercoolers at low boost due to their inefficiency, and I can't afford a twin-screw. Besides, the turbo sound is really cool. A centrifugal would give me most of the turbo power and turbo sound w/o the lag.

Thanks for the replies.

My understanding of centrifugal superchargers would lead me to believe that there is ALWAYS boost since the pulley is always spinning...while the engine is on of course, haha.
