honestly i think ford would be doing the world a favor if it just closed down

Personal likes and dislikes aside, Ford is the only company with the leadership to see that they weren't going to be able to sell gas-guzzlers forever. You'll notice that Ford isn't on the brink of bankruptcy, and isn't standing in line to get their handout from Uncle Sam. Ford's new cars have been well reviewed. Whether they can actually sell them in this economic climate remains to be seen.

Exactly. They only need to retool the factories here to produce euro models (at least the ones which meet emissions standards, which are most of them anyways) and Ford would be fine. The mondeo gave them the opening to work in the euro market and now they're very used to building high-quality cars with good fuel economy. Now Lincolns are starting to look like have decent cars again too, none of that town car bullshit.

ford trucks are sexy!! PT cruisers are uuuugly.. they seem to age rather fast too.. I like the hhr! it looks a tad bit more appealing, and i think it has slightly better engine performance/economy.. but then again i never paid attention to the pt specs anyhow.

Pretty sure they were making some huge profits with Focuses and Mondeos selling like hotcakes around the world and F150s selling more than any other vehicle in the States. Let's not forget, we had the Taurus as our version of the Mondeo which sold crazily too. Ford's been doing fine, but diversified and upped their game before they needed to. Now they're treading water during a huge drop in sales, while even Nissan is asking for bailout money.

And yes, I imagine they would have thread pitch on some bolts that match Volvos since they OWN Volvo.

There seems to be two modes of this conversation: Logical facts supporting Ford's revised business model and its benefits and you going "I hate Fords". Nuff said

Jeep is lost in the woods, they don't even really represent their original calling anymore.. THe srt8 is a cool jeep, but its not a mud machine at all..

Give me a Wrangler unlimited with a 5 cylinder mercedes diesel, a six speed manual, locking front hubs and diffs with 9" ring gears and I would be at the dealer with bells on..
