"Since Cerberus has taken over Chrysler from Daimler, the private investment firm has hacked away at the automaker's lineup: casualties have included the Dodge Magnum and Durango, along with the Chrysler Crossfire, Pacifica, and Aspen. As of this summer, another model will be added to the death list: the Chrysler PT Cruiser.

In a phone interview with Bloomberg yesterday, Chrysler President Tom LaSorda confirmed that the company will stop building the PT Cruiser this summer in an effort to save money. Chrysler will also try to sell the equipment used to make the vehicle, although so far it has found no buyers."

That's not surprising. With the Caliber having a similar profile it looks redundant. Although if you look at Jeep, they have models that can only be competing with each other, way too similar.

PT Cruiser seems like an OK car. Lotsa headroom, easy to get in and out of, very flexible capacity inside. Terrible fuel mileage though, and a car designed so much for appearance, the style has to get old sometime.

God I hate those things, they are horrible looking. The old farts down here LOVE THEM.

Chrysler would be doing the world a favor if they stopped producing their junk ass over priced cars, granted limiting the number of shitboxes is a small favor, but not enough.

The caliber is widely regarded as a true piece of trash. The PT was actually rather competent. I was never a fan of the styling, but GM thought it looked good enough to copy it ten years later with the HHR or whatever that ugly ass thing is called.

The way I see it is that Chrysler's demise is a foregone conclusion. Only the fools who pay good money for Jeeps that punish them with a harsh ride, caveman styling, and crappy reliability have kept them afloat this long.

Jeep is a american icon, caveman as they may be, they represent alot to the american.

BTW- I have 2 jeeps, lol they is what they is- off road capable vehicles, not cars with all wheel drive and suv bodies.

I agree. What amazes me is the number of people who buy a Jeep and use it exactly as they would a sedan or SUV. Chalk one up for marketing and the "Jeep mystique".

I admit my 07' Cherokee could pass for a 97' Cherokee, but I got it for a purpose and it fills the bill nicely, f'ing thing goes like all hell in the snow too.

The Patriot and Compass are not off road vehicles. No one in their right mind would take an SRT8 Grand Cherokee off roading. They built the Commander one year before cancelling the Durangoo.

Someone told me if you flew over Detroit last year you could see something like 300,000 unsold Jeeps. Unless they burned them they're surely still there.

Rob x-7 01-20-2009 02:31 PM

lets not split hairs over each vehicle, part of the problem today is they have 6 vehicles that are similiar to each other, cut out half the models on the showroom floor and I bet they turn a better profit.

honestly i think ford would be doing the world a favor if it just closed down
