bah, stock vs stock, i believe the e46 is easier to drive, more poised and if you point it, it will go. 97 m3s are slow as all hell compared to the new one. strangly enough the old m3 is considered to be close to the 330ci! the only difference between the two is the older m3 handles better than the 330 does. and the older m3 sounds awesome. e46 is a whole different world, if your local bimmer dealer will grant you a ride along ( usually you have to buy the car before you test drive as i did ) youll know there is one hell of a powerband to play with

yeah, and with competition from Mercedes with their e55 having like 468 hp or something now. ( 2003 ), means that the new m5 will have 500hp, thus making the next m3 have over 400 due to competition from lexus with their forthcomming is430 running 4.5..... ( not yet in america unfortunatly )

exactly, honestly that is where i believe the m3 shines, never once did i break it loose on the root-infested streets around here. you can push them to crazy limits for the size of the car.

on paper fd's handle a little better but i think the seats in the m3 provide more support and hold you in position better. the fd just plain scares the **** outta me, i think im too tiny for the side bolsters.

Don't get me wrong....The M3 is a freaking awesome car but dollar for dollar Fd all the way.

As fast as it is I don't consider any BMW to be a sports car. (except the z8) Pull along side a ricer, rev and its on....in an Fd pull along side him and he turns the other way. We all know that the BMW would still win but I think sometimes people only buy those cars just to spend the extra money. Every one I see in my town is owned buy a middle aged woman. Their are better things you could buy with that money. Z06 for example! Luxo speed cars just don't appeal to me. But thats me.....BMW still sells a bunch of them

bmw actually sells very little, production numbers on the new m3 are quite low for the frequency of how many times youll see the car.
