My cousin and I were talking about this new M3, with 333hp @7900rpms curb weight of 3500lbs. The new car and track or some magazine anyways he was saying shows it doing the 1/4 in 13.1 and 0-60 in like 4.6 seconds. It is a 6 speed also. Anyyways does the car really perform that well, at that weight and hp?

i concur. i have had a few track days in a 95 and a pair of 97 m3's and i have to say that they are very good course cars. they have a very good torque-to-horsepower band, and handle as good as the rx7 with the right mods under the corners....add a dinan s'charger and you have got yourself a bonerfried road course contender. take a look at all the m3's that are involved in teh one lap of america and the german touring car ranks. they do very well, and are an even performer in all aspects........some say that they lack styling points, true, but i think that they look great.....especially the new ones....oh yeah, they are also not too bad on the wallet..a used m3 [93-97] can be had for about 16-22K depending on the year and condition.....

ok i have a DIRECT response to that about the NEW m3's... If you look around at the different articles and all you'll see the 0-60 times vary by 4.6 to 5.0. honestly it is 4.7. they run 1/4 in about 13.3 or 13.4. when youre driving the coupe ( convert is slower ) you can NOT tell the weight because of the high revving engine. getting used to that kind of engine is the hard part and why people dont understand how it can go so fast. an m3 builds its most power near the redline, just as a turbo car would, but has a low end like none other. the problem with the m3 is that they designed the car around the engine and all parts are specifically made to handle that much power PERIOD. with the 6 speed man driving the car is NOT a question of traction but when to switch gears ( which is EVERYTHING in the m3 ) 6 gears is a LOT to choose from and at the top of 5th you've gone to the elec limiter, no need for 6th ( autobahn only )

the reason i know a lot about the car is because my last car was a 2001 man m3, and trust me, it was fast as all hell for what is was. as for m5's, its impossible to know how only 396hp can move a 5000+ lb car, but it does, with style.
