Perhaps my Manual Steering, Tight turning, Oversized Golf kart, Mid Engine Rear Wheel Driven Mr2 has spoiled my handling desires...



...but its only been Weeks since I have replaced an MKI MR2 with a G2 Integra for a winter Daily Driver...and I am already sick of FWD....



...For So long I had RWD. Before the MKI was an MKII Turbo...



Of all the things that changed (Power, smooth ride, clutch, etc) I am pretty spoiled with the clutch setup on sports cars and just RWD in general.



Is an Old Beemer going to hold its own on the road? I am *This* close to getting a MKII Mr2 NA in the future...but I'm not sure how great it'll be for the winter.



After thinking about it, there is a whole 2 times maybe, every winter, where I am *Forced* to drive with the roads literally white...and usually I can tell its coming (sometimes the weathermen ARE correct!) so it shouldn't be so bad. It'd be a $3k cheap MKII Mr2 anyways, not an Upgraded Turbo JDM Monster.



What's your advice/thoughts? I think I'm going loco!

 

IMO, so far, the best RWD in the snow was my 7 (out of like 5 cars)...Haven't driven my Blazer in snow yet, but the 7 handled the best and braked better and was more predictable in a slide than the Escort/Taurus/Cavalier/Taurus wagon/Omni i drove thru different winters...who woulda thunk it eh!?

I drove my 86 gxl in the snow quite a few times, and it did pretty good. You could always buy some cheap studs or snow tires.

 

My rx7 was HORRIBLE in the snow, even light snow. Summer tires don't help

 

Yea, I think after this winter I'm just gonna say "Screw it" and buy a RWD car I like.



I'm guessing it will be a decent (but Hi-Miles) Mkii Mr2.

It's small and quick and fun, but still gets like 25-29mpg and is somewhat of a "rare" non-everyday car .



I was thinking NA MKIV Supra but they are overpriced, somehow they gain some premium like their TT Counterparts.....lame.



I also considered BMW. But a $3k BMW (early 90's 3 series) will probably cost me $3k in repairs out of the blue...

 

I got stuck driving my TII in the snow once, but luckily it was just a dusting. That car was hard enough to drive in the rain.

 

My 7 didn't have ANY problems in the snow unless you wanted to A)stop fast or B) move fast, as long as i built speed very slowly, i was OK....word of advice to any new 7 owners planning to drive it this winter DO NOT and i repeat DO NOT, give it a LOT of gas in 2nd :P It makes you drive sideways while going straight if that makes sense to ya, if i didn't do it on purpose i woulda definitely switched ends and as it was i still almost ended up in someone's yard, but there is NO experience like driving sideways down 2 blocks while still moving forward, it's kinda like drifting but we call it winter down here ROFL

I had a 1985 RX-7 GS, with a 50 pound bag of sand behind each seat

and 185/14s Pep Boys specials tires it was great in the snow.



The kids playsand cost like $3-$4 a bag at home depot, I put each bag

in a small garbage bag incase the sand bag broke open.



I would imagine it would be even better with some snow tires.



The car was a base model beater, but with a decent stereo it

was a good daily driver. Even had a manual choke- sometimes less

is more!

 

I'll be driving the streetported TII this winter, hell yeah. I can't freakin' wait.... it's supposed to be a pretty bad one too. Muhahaha... Of course, I'm gonna be shellin' out $$$ for an extra-nice set of winter tires too. I imagine a MR2 would fair even better than a TII in the winter, with more weight on the rear end and all. Might wanna put some sandbags in the front though, lol.
