I am 99% sure I have it now so by this coming Friday I am going to be ready to roll.
I think I have a collapsing secondary air intake hose. I am looking for hardpipes.
I THOUGHT I saw a major depression in the intake hose when I shut the car off at night right after I started having boost problems. I was using a flashlight and decided that it was an illusion however.
What i noticed is that as soon as I started having boost problems & peaking at 7-8, letting off and flooring it immediately restored boost & I rolled right up to 15-16. I started searching for a leak in my vacuum chamber hose or a bad check valve, something that was causing me to temporarily lose secondary boost.
I got hose & went to get a new check valve & when I mentioned the off the gas-on the gas "solution", to Phil, a damn good tech at Gaithersburg Mazda (who is also a racer) he immediately suggested the collapsing hose. Absolutely consistent with my problems - and maybe the cause of some of my "misfire" problems off the line last year too.
This is about as old a problem as was ever reported on the RX-7, dating from around 1994, but it had completely slipped my mind. Old weak hose, old weak mind. I shouda figured that out!
