Yeah, Sup everyone! My names Danny, and yeah, I want my first car to be a 2nd gen RX-7. Not sure about n/a or turbo yet.. depends on how much I got saved up. I'm also new to rx-7's, and I want to learn as much about rotary engine and maintnance before buying it. But yeah can you guys answer some of my questions? Since I like the rx-7 but heard alot of bad stuff about the engine.

Questions:

1. My friend told me that adding an intake to the engine can wear out the engine faster? True?

2. Here are two links to a review site about the 2nd gen RX-7, which they had trouble with it. I just want to know what was wrong with these ones, and how can it be fix...

3. Does porting your engine, will make it last longer then the stock ones? Such as the street porting?

4. Does Mazda Dealearship specialize in porting? If so, good job? Or no...

Well I guess thats, all of the questions I can think up of now, if you have time to answer them, thanks.

Start with a nice N/A FC. Learn the car inside and out and move your way up! I wish I would have done it that way. I was a Honda guy before the FD... And let me tell ya.. Would have been nice to have did a less complex RX7 first..

I checked out the seconds LINK in question 2... I don't know if I would trust the word of this guy or not. He does not sounds like a bullshitter but he does not seem very knowledgeable about sevens. For example just changing exhaust is not going to give you 50 HP just like that. Also there are lots of guys here that drive TII's with 10-12 PSI of boost and are not rebuilding engines every 20K miles. TIIs are a little less reliable than a N/A.

I would start with a GTU or GXL. BE careful jumping into a Tii for your first car... That is a lot of power not a lot of weight.

Good luck and welcome to NoPistons
