Default Getting serious about an RX-8

I have been spending the last two weeks looking for "my car" and have done a lot of research. I like what I read about the series 2 engine, but that is the only advantage over a series 1 so my search is still wide open.

I would PREFER, low to medium mileage, navigation, sunroof, leather seats and any color other than black.

I MUST have, automatic tranny. This is my only "must have".

I am prepared to spend up to $20K but would like to keep it at $12k or so an a cash deal so I have money left to bring it up to my requirements.

But at this point I am thinking I may be gravitating toward the series 1 because of the looks, if I can find one that I feel I can depend on. The problem with the series 1 is that there is no factory warranty left on the drive train and the Wankel is so prone to damage by a driver that doesn't know what they are doing that I am afraid of what the previous owner might have done to it.

So with that in mind, I have some questions that maybe the old timers might have some answers to, that will help me to make the move from a series 2 to a series 1

1) How difficult or expensive is an engine replacement/rebuild? I am very experienced with rebuilding piston engines. What would Mazda charge, generally, for a replacement engine installed?

2) Can a GPS Navigation unit be retrofitted to the RX-8 so that it looks factory?

3) forgot.....my 77 year old brain cells are failing......
