Here goes the obligatory newbie thread. I'm from Ontario Canada, I build 4 cyl oval cars and race them at my 2 local ovals on friday and saturday nights. Currently I'm running a DC2 Integra I intend to hold onto for quite a while. I also do all the work on my brothers mk3 Golf he races in the entry level division at one of the tracks.

I have always been a big Japanese nostalgic car fan and started getting into drifting and time attack, more so the later. In the fall my neighbor asked me if I would use my car trailer to move some cars of his for him. Turns out one was a 74 Sting ray (his pride and joy) and the other a mint 85 GSL-SE. It was his x wifes car and hasnt seen the road since .... 96 I think the sticker said. And it spent all that down time sitting in his heated concrete floored garage next to the vette. I moved the cars for him out to his barn and negotiations began for the rx7.

I currently dont have the time or the space for the car so it sits in his barn until spring when I will start on it. For now I started researching the rotary and have found this site significantly more helpfull than the others. I plan to build the car into an all out track car, gut it and cage it with some sort of turbo rotary power eventually finding its way under the hood.

For now you'll see me hunting around the forums for answers to all my questions. not that you will see much of me as the FAQ here has been really good to me so far.

For some reason I can't seem to get the search function to work or change my avatar tho. It keeps telling me It needs to be under 50k and it is way under, but for some reason it keep loading my old avatar and giving me an error message.

Anyways, looking foreward to being part of this helpfull comunity and building my FB into a time attack monster.

! its mint you say! I would keep that baby on the street. Get some classic car insurance and it would be ultra cheap to keep on the road. Gutting that mint gsl-se rx7 just makes me sad Its deserves some street lovin

Well i dont know about collector car mint. The interior is a dark red colour I'm not to fond of and the drivers seat has a little wear and tear but nothing major. I just saw the body was rust free from the outside and I crawled underneath and it was pretty clean as well. Under the hood could use a little TLC and it hasn't run in more than ten years but its all there and in good shape. I also noticed the clutch pedal was depressed to the floor so I'm sure the master needs a rebuild.

I will probly run into a few more issues once I get started on it in spring. I just saw it as a rust free project and bought it without even trying to start it (no battery). For all I know the trays behind the seats could be totally rotted away. But I'm ambitious and I can weld so since the body and frame were alright I was happy, done deal, I'll patch anything like that up when I put the cage in

I am fond of the idea of giving it a mild restoration and keeping it for a collector but then I would be afraid to drive it and I dont have the space for that kind of car. I want something fun I can take to the track to beat on and not have to worry... sure I'll still pamper the car and take care of it, but I dont think I could ever own a car I was afriad of ruining its value. It would be like a low k classic, driving it would ruin it and further reduce the value, so why even own it if you cant drive it. Granted I am gratefull we have people like that to keep those cars around for us to look at, but its just not for me.

Now that I think about it, I wonder how many k's are on this FB... Either way, if I go through with the build atleast I can assure you all parts wont be wasted I'll be selling them to desperate FB owners restoring there cars hunting down those little bits of rare trim or whatever.

I wish I had some pics. I'll have to snap some next time I'm out there if i get a chance to see it again this winter. If not, April at the latest.

sweet deal! i may need to get a few of the interior parts off of your hands lol. as for the clutch issue, i had a clutch line rot out on me before so there might not be anything wrong with the master cylander but a flush is definitely in order regardless haha

I never thought of a rotted clutch line. Hopefully thats all it is, thats a cheaper fix, lol But yes, either way I will be going over all the brake and clutch lines and suspension to make sure its still all in good shape. I plan to eventually replace a lot of the suspension eventually anyways.

For the first year tho I'm just going to stick with a gutted interior, cage, some custom coil overs and a decent set of dished wheels. Then over the winter I'll get into the motor hopefully and swap out the rear end for a ford 8.8". But now I'm getting ahead of myself, first I have to get the thing home

I'll let you know when I get to gutting the interior. I'm sure it wont take me long once I get the car home
