It was a couple of years ago, driving my 93 RX-7 home on the Dallas North Tollway, way after midnight. My car (totalled a year or so later when the driver's side axle shattered under 1-2 shift at 7,000 rpm) had the '99 turbos, a fresh, street-ported engine, bigger intercooler and secondary injectors). I pulled up on a little box of a car with a big muffler hanging out the back. I payed him no mind, moving to pass him in the fast lane. The Dallas North Tollway is a twisty, six-laned canyon-type freeway, with a really good surface, but some tight turns. As I get up next to the car, I noticed the Type-R (for racing) decal on the driver's side front fender. Then I hear his little four-banger scream to life; so I down-shifted to third and nailed it. I pulled on him steadily, passing 120 mph in fourth. I backed off, but here he came again. I got back into it, flying through fourth gear (not sure how fast I was going then, as the curves were getting a litltle hairy). When I let off, he was no where in sight! Around the next curve, he caught up again! This time I went through fifth gear, I wasn't giving him a chance this time. During a straightaway, I noticed the speedo was at 155 MPH. I backed off and slowed down a lot (the Dallas Police frown on speeds above 150...) The Type-R caught up, and he motioned for me to exit. I quickly agreed, as I was shaking from the adrenaline. We pulled off into a parking lot, and he jumped out and said "Man, there is something wrong with your car!". I got out and he motioned to the muffler (Greddy unit) that was glowing white hot! When I called my guy at Rotary Performance (they built the engine) and told him about the muffler glowing, he said "Welcome to RX-7 racing!".
