The night was cold...Colder than usual. Considerable colder than it usually is at the end of August. It was in the high 60's as we cruised around my home town in the wee hours of the morning.

I had just finished my "custom exhaust" on my peripheal ported FB RX7 the other day, and had actually just got back from the dyno where it put down a healthy 275 whp at the wheels (on the motor itself) even with my funky *** exhaust. A week ago, I had trailered the car down to California, where Matt (matt_sb2000) had helped me setup my super quiet exhaust (to those non-rotor heads, a periport is ******* LOUD) Well, he decided to take a vacation and follow me up the next day.

As we cruised the gut, goosing the car, then letting off to see if the cops would even notice us (stealth mode yO) we roll up upon a beast of a car. It was God's chariot, the Chevrolet Corvette Z06. I had seen the car before, at the track. It had quite a few bolton's and was a solid 11 second car. As I gawked in amazement at the behemoth that was prowling the streets just as we were, Matt muttered those fateful words...

"Is that a Z06? **** that bitch. **** him up man."

Fate is not without a sense of irony...Just after he finished his sentence, the light we were approaching turns red. Time to pick a fight...but how

How do you instigate a race with something that you know can ******* move...How do you pick a fight with the biggest kid in class? How do you pick a fight with a bulley? Simple...You walk up and clock him in the ******* face...and that I did

I purged.

As I rolled up next to this monster, I simply looked over, and purged.

I don't know if it was the nitrous venting to the atmosphere, the sound of my ported rotary shitting itself trying to idle at 1500 rpm, or the fact that two ricers in a gutted and dumped, but otherwise-stock-looking-if-you-can't-see-the-cage RX7, but for some reason, the Z06 owner seemed displeased...

Very displeased.

He wouldn't even look in our direction, he just slightly revved. I knew it was on. *Click* slide the shifter into first gear, tighten up the harnesses, flick the switch for the nitrous, flick the switch for the two step...and hold on.

As the side lights turned yellow, I mashed the gas and sat on my first stage, 5.5k rpm rev limiter.

No onlookers. No traffic. No nothing. Just David VS Goliath in the streetfight of the century. You can hear the ******* click of the light changing.

Time to ******* go.

Out goes the clutch...A small bit of wheelspin is seen, but not much thanks to the 275/50/15 drag radials out back. As my tach reads 8k rpm, the nitrous engages. About 100 extra horsepower worth of laughing gas reaches the engine, and the *** slides out quite a bit more than before. A little less gas, and the Z06 and I are side by side, but I have traction.

As the tach reaches 12k rpm, the clutch is put to the floor, and second gear is found with much haste. Sidestep the clutch and pound the gas. The nitrous reingages, but no ground is gained or lost...and the Z06 is starting to hook up

The mighty Vette begins to inch ahead of me, slowly pulling a fender by the top of second...But I have a small trick up my sleeve.

As I grab third gear, my progressive nitrous controller makes itself known as being worth it's weight in gold. 150 more horsepower, on top of the original 100 is blasted into the already giggling rotary, and the rear tires scream for mercy for just a split second.

Then I'm ******* gone.

By now, we're reaching some pretty high speeds...Bone breaking speeds. Front page newspaper speeds. Oh-****-Matt-and-I-are-going-to-die speeds. I look in my mirror and the front of the Z06 is just visible in the mirror, and although he's right on my ***...I'm pulling away.

As I let off the gas, and gently apply the brakes, the car is silent. The car remains silent till we reach our destination. Matt looks over at me. "Man, you were pulling on a ******* modded Z06 in his sweet spot. **** yes. Later man."

As I got home, I parked the car in the usual spot. Letting it idle for about a minute, finishing the song I had been listening to.

As I walk inside, my stepdad asked me if anything interesting had happened. I replied "Oh nothing. Just hung out with Matt for awhile." I slowly walked into my room, opened a file on my computer labeled "kills" and simply wrote "Z06 Corvette."

Usually I just sorta casually read the kills for my own amusement... but man, that was one hell of a story. Yeah, yeah, nice kill - but the story is what got me. Nice writing!

Good job nice kill. Its always good to read about a Vette going down. I am sure you two will see each other at the track. Be sure he will wander over to see what is up w/ your ride. Wont he be suprised to see such a tiny motor in there.
