would think this would be an easy kill as I think the MX6 turbo's only have like 160hp stock... since their turbo is boosting like 6lbs....



and if it is an auto its even worse... hahaha

I agree. And when your shifting, you dont really need to push the clutch in all the way and hold it, just enough to get a shift off, a quick in-and-out motion.



I dump mine at 4500 rpm and get some mad hopping action, presumably form the LSMD. Once I stick, its seems like its already shifting action, one more shift, and I'm at 60 mph. Gotta love the rotary.



Oh yeah, on breakin, I went something like 800 mi under 4K, then gradually started going up to 5 and 6K every now and then for another 100 mi. I tried to keep from downshifting above 4K. Once I hit 900 mi, I started gradually pushing up a little further on back roads, no major racing though. Once I hit 960 mi, I pulled up next to an Impreza, and I couldn't resist.



A $5000 rebuild in one year isn't worth one race and $100.

Net gain: -$4900



Overall feeling: Stupid

Don't do it, take a road trip first.

yeah break that motor in first. better safe than sorry. and does he have NAWSSSSSS and does he "Shift Mad Quick Yo"? let us know how it goes

Hey i'm new to this forum and rx-7's i just killed my 1991 celica so i bought a 1987 rx-7 tII from this garage i know,,,they hook up mostly mazda 7's and vw's,,,my 7's got a new rebuilt engine raceing beat duel exhaust and an intake so im guessen im pushen about 200hp maybe alittle more anywayz i got plans to race this kid from my old high school he has a turbo mx-6 and used to distroy my celica so i figure its time for some pay back so i dropped him a call and he jumped at the chance to race me and added alittle about how wack my 87 rx would be (showen how he knows **** about cars) i dont think he knows it has a turbo,,,lol he'll find out soon tho so i dropped 100bucks on the race,,,i havent even drove the car yet since its not even finished and im kinda dreading the race since my engine is new and i dont wanna risk messen it up,,,would one race mess anything up? i got 100 bucks on the line,, :twisted:

races dont kill rx7s, bad drivers kill rx7s. just make sure you stay within the engines limits.

and if the engine is new make sure it is broken in before hand.

Well, your motor is gonna need the 1K mile break-in period where you cant go over 4KRPM...so just drive a lot before the race, break the motor in...not following the breakin procedure can lead to BIG problems down the road, not to mention, fresh motors dont have full compression right away as the apex seals are still loosening up a bit, so take it easy...

I usually shift at about 8-8.5k that way when i shift im put right into the powerband of the next gear.
