Well, 1 ton is 2000 pounds, so it's about 2 tons LOL. Still a bit heavy.

That kind of goes to what I've been saying all along. People get all caught-up with horsepower numbers, but that not the whole ball game. It's both power and weight that give you your "power-to-weight ratio"- which is a truer indicator of a cars real performance potential.

Anyone have any idea how much these things (the 850) were going for back in 98-99?

The Mazda RX-7 is tuff to beat when you look at the numbers that way.

no, you get me wrong, i know hp numbers aren't as important as power to weight, but you got that car by about 1500lbs....that is a lot of weight, plus you car was modified, i have no idea how fast, or how much power you make, but the BMW is big. you also say it was the top gun at the time. right now the M5 is the top gun, but the M3 is faster, cause it is lighter...i would bet that ur car has a much better power to weight ratio then the bmw...that bmw probably runs mid 15s...maybe high 14s, i can't find any performance numbers, other than its 0-60 was just under 7 seconds

You guy's a starting to get it:

HR power by itself is not the whole ball game and really when you do all the math the Mazda stacks up pretty well against some $ pricey ccompeition But the reason why I like this story has little to do with the cars themselves (I had beaten faster), but the shear excitement of it and the willingness of the one guy to really go all out with me there on that highway. What I mean is, this race went on for more than twenty minutes. I missed my exist by miles, but didn't want to stop because it was that good and I'm pretty sure this guy mr.850 who ever he was must of felt the same way. We were both having to much fun to stop.

I probablyad more than a huhunderedaces before I bumped heads with this dude, but not that many people were willing to go all out like this guy, so it would usually be over just when it started to get interesting. This guy and his car (no matter what you want to say about it now), were right their with it and that takes more than HR power. That's why I love this particular story.

850CSI's at the time had like 350 I think from the V12. BUT only an automatic, no manual's were imported to the states.
wrong...my dad had a 6spd 850

proof of standard tranny

on an added note these cars are super fast.....theyre not sports cars...theyre highway cruiser / pimp cars....and that 6spd brings them up near 180mph

I guess people have a hard time beleiveing an auto FC GXL......i guess cause some members wont push there 5 spds that high. Kewl run man. I like going against top dawgs like BMW's. i usally dont win but there suprised how a lil rinky dink car is keeping up though lol

I don't see how something that weighs that much with only 300 hp can go 180... porsches top out around that and they have 415 hp...and weigh less
