I am installing a new stereo in my FD this weekend. I bought a 5.25" phoenix gold component set, and a new alpine cd player. I am replacing all the stock speaker wires with new 16gauge wire.. now i know it will sound better but I am wanting a lil more lowend to my stereo. I do not want to take up much room in my hatch, and im kinda leaning away from an actual sub system in my car. So what I was thinking would be to put 6.5" subs in the rear speaker spots and run a small amp to them.

I am not trying to make my car beat down the neighbors house, just sound good and look stock.. what do you guys think of doing something along those lines??

a friend of mine told me to just go out and buy a powered bazooka tube and mount it in my back, and when I go to the track just take it out and set it in the garage and go racing. that is another option but I think bazooka tubes are well ugly and too common and a cheap fix.. what do you guys think?? or do i just need to throw a nice small sub in the hatch and put a 6.5" component set in the rear spots to go with my 5.25" in the doors??

just fishin for thoughts!!

put some subs somewhere you can hide them i think that a well placed JL audio ten with a good amp will give you plenty of bump maybe place it in one of the storage bins

I actually was thinking about that myself but building a fiberglass box into the spare tire wheel well and then build a top that will make it all look flush and everything with my hatch area just have a sub in there, I was actually thinking just a JL audio 12w0 powered by a 250watt mono amp.. maybe i really dont want to add much weight to my ride tho but a small box and sub wont add no more than 50 pounds to my car i bet...

Ohh and amp location do any of you have amps mounted under your seats?? I was looking and didnt get to measure but there isnt too much room under our seats and I was currious if I could fit a small amp under one of them without affecting the sliders and stuff?? I believe the amp I was looking at is 2" tall by 8" wide by 10" long so yah its not too big of an amp.. but i dont really have time to meaure at this moment.... So let me know guys if ya have an amp under your seats of your FD....

Didn't I just read somewhere that you are trying to "lighten" your car?? Man, seems like you are all over the place! LOL!

This is my advice... Don't build an FG box. Usually they are heavy and for large speakers and to look pretty... Large speaker means large amp to supply the power and then you need large wires and cap. FD's tiny and don't need much to make good bass... unless you're looking for earth shaking bass (I used to be into car stereo back in the days when Vanilla Ice was the ****, LOL!).

What I would do instead would be to get a good top end mids. I personally am a fan of Boston Accustics (they are still around correct? LOL). A top end BA set in custom rear speaker enclosed will make decent bass with good head unit.

If you want more, Get JL 8W7 and make the box portable. Just put it in the smallest enclosure, attatch a nice amp in the back, put some handles, and then make a quick disconnect so that when you need that thing out of the car so that you could go DRAG!

i think ill just do a bazooka tube or something thats powered and that i can remove within a few mins, I realy dont want earth shattering bass just something to add a lil extra low end to my sound.. i listen mostly to classic rock and new rock like mudvayne, rob zombie, silverchair groups like that, nothing extremely hard on bass... sorry to the rap fans but no rap for me, except baby got back ha ha!!
