if you are concerned about the heat, then do what I did for my motorcycle exhaust.

Go to Home Depot and in the plumbers section they have a special heat resistent fabric.

It is used for when torching of pipes is done. they lay it around the area so sparks and flames dont catch things on fire.

Cut it to the size and shape you want and stick it on with an adhesive.

Works great, stoped my plastics from melting on the bike.
