Cleaning The Engine Bay
what about a steam cleaner, as opposed to a pressure washer? My step mom got a fiero, that caught fire on the way home from the purchase. There was so much oil, grease, and leaves built up. They had it steamed cleaned for like $30, and it looked great

When its all dry, spray it down with silicone spray or some silicone based
tire dressing. If you get the stuff from Auto Magic I would highly suggest some
Magic Dressing.

In order:
Baldy- alot of shops call it steam cleaning, they call it whatever you
want, lol, if someone called my shop when I had it and asked
me if I steam cleaned engines, I said yes.
vudoo- on a cool motor its ok, then start the car up right away and let
the engine dry, blow it with some compressed air if you have it.
75REPU- a little spray protects the metals from corroding, and the rubber
from drying, the drawback is dust sticks to it, I would rather have
some dust that can be easily wiped off then corrosion.

I was checking out the Brakekleen stuff today and saw there were different kinds.. brake and parts cleaner, heavy duty, etc. Which kind's the best? I also saw some Gunk namebrand.. but not sure how good it is..

do not use gunk seriously gunk should be banned from the shelves.. it doesn't work and it smells so bad.. everyone who has used it will tell you this
If your going that route I would buy plastic safe electrical and motor cleaner.
Similar to brake clean but a bit safer.

The stuff works wonders, dries fast, has alot of pressure coming out the can, and is safe for everything under the hood. Always watch the paint on the fenders with this stuff as you can never be too certain. Its a bit safer then brake cleaner. Also comes in really handy when you are working on anything electrical, spray some of that **** in the connector, blow it dry and it cleans the contacts.
You still will not achieve the level of detail a good pressure washing with a good engine degreaser. Maybe look into calling some detail shops and asking them- be forewarned it is considered illegal in certain states and they may say no over the phone, best bet might be to ask your friends and what not if they have ever had it done.
