Wut a day on the water.... not

So yea i throw the $150 worth of gas in the boat, grab some chum, grab some bait. Figure on drifting live's if possible.
Forcast was 2 foot or less, winds north, check the actual winds in the morning, they indicate wnw, odd but ok, show up to the boat launch and guys are pulling off the water at 7am in the morning, again seems odd, but not impossible it is mothers day weekend and a lot of guys will fish sunup for a couple hours and head in.
As I approach the inlet I see some whitecaps and a lot of boats coming in "wtf i think 2 foot seas how far off can they be? 3 to 4's?" As i break the inlet amy says where the boat in front of go...... uhhh, yea he's on the otherside of the that wall of water, he pulls a hard port turn and runs for the bait grounds, then turns again and heads back, incoming wave poops him, but he made it back. White caps as far as i can see and some damn big boats are coming back in so we head back in i figure anchor up inside the inlet, give an hour or better maybe it will settle, we hit a boaters only park do some walking, listen to some tunes and head back out aorund quarter nine, it was slightly better, but still no fun.
I checked the fishing forum that I frequent and no one could believe it, the best post i saw was, "2 foot seas my ***, 4 to 6 with the occasional 8 for good measure."
I am hoping all the flats boats that tried it made it back in, i didn't read about any capsized boats so i think they did.
Forcast calls for 2 foot seas winds from the south 5 knots tomorrow, i'll believe it when i see it.
