I'm going to drag this thread kicking and screaming back to the present day!



I'm in the market for a wireless access point, and I understand that I can just add a wireless router to my existing wired network. What are you guys using? My linksys stuff has been perfect, but I see a lot of people are not enjoying their latest wireless stuff.



My wife has an ipad and whatever I get will need to work with it.



Will 802.11n stuff work with older 802.11g stuff?

Anything will work with the ipad so that's not an issue. I'm not a huge fan of linksys, but some people are. I prefer dlink, however I am running the Apple Time Capsule for my router and it rocks.

 

whatever is on sale at the time of purchase- that is how I would go.



Once set up routers never need to be touched- at least mine have never needed to be touched.

Phins installed one at my house and it sat until I changed it out this summer- and again I have not touched it since.

People saying one router sucks compared to another can probably be traced back to the person making set up mistakes with new equipment.



New **** is even easier- press that button the router and press the button on your wireless device and bingo you are up and running

My brother does a lot of IT stuff including setting up wireless networks. He recommended Engenius brand routers to me. They are flawlessly stable, can be flashed with other firewall/router firmware, and the spec list is usually far above anything else in its price range. Heres mine.

 

Engenius has some pretty good products too!

 

On a different subject, how fair can I run a Cat5 network cable?

I know how important closure is, and I don't want to keep you all hanging. I purchased a D-Link DIR-601 Wireless N 150 Home Router for like 35 bucks. So far, so good!
