Im about to get a new router, and I want some model/manufacturer recommendations. Ive got a netgear router now that I havent had any problems with, but Im open to other brands as well. The main thing Im looking for is dual band N.

I wouldn't know what "dual band N" was if it bit me on the ass, but I've got a Linksys router and cable modem and they both work fine. They're old, and they have wires coming out of them, and that's the way I like it!

Take a look at the D-Link Xtreme N Duo Media Router DIR-855 - wireless router. It is True dual-band; great throughput performance; intuitive and responsive browser interface; gigabit LAN and WAN; easy to set up; supports separate wireless networks for guests; network activity display offers quick access to a variety of network information; convenient preset settings. The problems I read are Middling range; confusing network activity display; expensive; bulky design; no print-serving or NAS functionality.
So bottom line, The D-Link Xtreme N Duo Media Router DIR-855 is a stable performer with excellent Web interface. But because it comes in a bulky, old-school design, has a relatively short range, and carries a hefty price tag, ($250-$300). I would consider waiting for the price to drop before investing in this router. Another one to look at is the Linksys WRT610N Simultaneous Dual-N Band Wireless Router. It can satisfy both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz wireless clients with its solid performance, great design, ease of use, and its ability to work as a network storage device when coupled with an external hard drive. It's also alot cheaper! ($165-$200) |
I always used dlinks up until i got my time capsule, had a lot of issues with linksys routers in the past.
