the squeaking is OBVIOUSLY the call of mother nature demanding the trees and squirrels attack those crazy machines.

Freon is not flamable, but it can cause problems similar to an asphyxiant (takes your breath away) if released into a closed cabin. most reasons they do not like A/C in the car is that it is a high pressure gas and has the potential with the oil in it, to cause oil and freon to be sprayed all over the driver. The last thing they need is a high pressure release of the gas and oil mix all over there helmet and eys/eyewear while in the middle of a high speed straightaway. The mixture is a mess, and does not wipe off, all it does is smear. Most drivers have a liquid cooling suit similar to the guys in Nascar. Liquid is pumped throughout the suit to cool down the body. A storage tank is in the rear of the car and carries about a gallon of fluid. Nasa first designed the suit for the spacewalks, it circulates a fluid through small tubes in the suit to carry heat away from the body and release it through a small radiator (similar to a water to air intercooler just reverse)

The squeaking is partially wastegate flutter & partially airflow reversion thru the restrictor.

WRC cars ran AC in the East African Safari. Stages were long, roads rough & hot. The spec of the cars was unique for the event, none of the suspension parts were used anywhere else, which may be one of the reasons that event is no more I was lucky enough to see a couple of stages as a kid when we lived in Kenya. That was 'back in the day'......about 1970. Shekar Mehta drove the factory 240Z.

no. freon is one of the most stable compounds that is why it won't brak down in atm and is why there is hole in the ozone

I swear the WRC had AC last year. I remember Nicki Grist talking about how they developed a new system that uses a minimal amount of power and they used it on the really hot stages. Forgot which one that was. Isn't the new R-135 or whatever a lot better for the environment?
