I have never forgotten to put my hood pins in, plus I have a latch.

89-rag - I was doing it by hand, so no chance of really burning through paint.

I'm not lying. I bought 2 paint guns about 3 weeks ago, went to the paint shop in town and bought dupont paint. Went by the tech sheets and painted my friend Ben's hood last week, and then my bumper this week. I did some research on how to paint, and then basically am learning by trial and error now. First time I painted Ben's hood the prep work wasn't that great, so I redid it, and still had some kinks to work out in my spraying technique. Now I have everything almost perfected, but need to make sure I lay on enough paint so I don't end up with a lighter areas than I would like. This thursday or friday I'll be doing my hood to get rid of the chips on it, and may go ahead and shoot the bumper again since the hard part was sanding the chips out.

you will sand the whole bumper, shoot more color on those areas, then re-clear the bumper, its small enough that its not worth doing any blends on

Ok sweet. Sand down with like 400-500? Or should I go finer? Also...would that method work on metalics, or would you end up with dry patches?

Cletus- various web sources, but mainly autobody101.com. Some pretty good pointers in there. As long as you understand the chemistry of paints, some fundamentals, and understand a little bit about the guns and tip sizing, its a just a matter of getting your technique down. And of course prep work. 90% prep work.
