8k+ RPM's...and keeping my FD over 4500 at all times

 

I was attracted to them becouse they were different, far apart from what everyone else was doing. I would say this happened around 90-91. Even from the beginning I never liked the 2'nd gen body. Ito you know how it was in the 90's where we both live and hang out. All the little badass 1'st gens all hooked up driving around. That is what really attracted me to the rx-7. So I guess I owe it all to the cool puerto rican cats that were doing things 10+ years ago, that is just now becoming popular

 

Yeah, so i'm a newbie. I'm originally from Mexico, so I never knew about rotaries before. I have been driving shitbox 4 bangers all my life. I would get to play with some nice luxo benzes when I visited my grandparents on ocasion, but other than some track time with again, 4 bangers, that was about it. I moved to Miami 5 1/2 years ago and am still here. In my first couple of years I saw some 7s, but never really knew what they where until a guy I knew in Tampa showed me his 7. He mentioned the rotary engine of course, but at the time I didn't really look into it much, since I didn't have the money to mess with a car.



Flash forward and now it's time to buy a new car. My dinky 96 neon looks like crap, I've saved up some cash and am looking for a new car. I spent about 6 months looking around and reading up, going for test drives, etc. Doing my best to get the best car for me. Anyway, I had settled on a Mazda 6s with all the stuff. I went to a dealer that let me test drive it before and asked him to find me a car, it was time to buy. After all necessary haggling I was there to pick up the car when he admits they didn't have it for some reason. I had cut out of work and everything to go there, so I was pissed. As I was leaving I saw the first long strip format rx-8 brochure. I picked it up on my way out and really liked the car. I was the 4 seater I really wanted and had to wait another 3 months before I could test drive one. Finally got my chance and I just loved the damn car. Shortly thereafter I had a new 8. Had it almost 6 months now and I still enjoy every aspect of the car. I was fascinated by the engine when I first started looking into it And the interest just grew beyond that. I now enjoy auto-x and am planning on my first exhaust and am going for a great track day at Sebring on my 31st B-day.

I was 10 years old and helping my step dad work on his 76 REPU which is now mine He was telling me all these stories from when he was younger racing around town in his RX-2s and 3s, and how some people wouldnt race him, the fact that they were scard of a motor that was smaller then theres. Then when I got my 84 GS at the age of 16. It was great I this sickness will never go away. I have 3RXs and my REPU

 

I got attracted to the specs of the FD in 1995. Popular Mechanic's buyer's guide. I saw an FC and an SA and knew I had to have one.

 

My ***** is too big to fit between the valves on a piston motor...

 

i heard about them from magazines and such, so i went to how stuff works and read up on them. and afterwards i thought "WTF mate?" buit no i was just thinking why the hell everyone else didnt just adopt the engine, it makes a hell of a lot more sense.

 

My passion stretches into everything I do. Its my own way of keeping myself sane and off medication. If it wasnt a rotary, it would be something else.



I was looking for something along the lines of a Civic, or some other cheap econobox when I was 16, and came across a chance deal on an 89 GTU. Test drove the car, and it was in my driveway 2 days later. Then I started learning about it, and now Im here. I love being unique, thats what kept me here.

 

The look, the sound, and the feel of it. All three got me started and continue to keep me hooked.

 

The relative simplicity of the engine is what intrigues me. Initially the look of the RX-7 got my attention, much like some of you have said, but it's my interest in the performance of the rotary and its variations that keeps me coming back for more.



Not to mention the search for a rolling FB...
