Stay with the PS2. Much better games. Grand Theft Auto III/Vice City, Devil May Cry (perhaps the best action/role playing game ever), Final Fantasy, the list goes on.

I need to find what comes with the PS2 and what would be the first games...cause its for my 2 1/2 yr old kid..he will be almost 3 by then

You can get it with Grand Turismo A-Spec, but quite honestly, it's a bit too complicated for a little kid. There are far more games available for the PS2 than the Xbox right now. There are plenty of kiddie games. I buy them for my girlfriend, she can't figure out how to play the adult games.
I thought you could mod the colors
The Xbox is a better system online as well, ethernet built in, hard drive built in so you can download new items, whole games etc.
Plus you can control what is played on the xbox if kids become an issue
As far as games go, again there will be more and better Xbox titles in the long run no developer wants to screw with Sony's idiotic development tools.
