Yea PS2 is your best option I think. I couldn't tell you about burning games. Quite honestly the games are not all that expensive in the first place.

PS/2 is awesome, about burning games, won't happen, sorry, Sony is Notorious for their anti pirating protections in both their gaming consoles, and their stand alone dvd players, there is supposedly a mod chip for the ps/2, but having looked into it, I found out it is only to allow playing burned ps/1 games makes sense, because the ps/2 games are all on dvd, and have copywrite protection. In other words, even if you had a dvd burner, the ps/2 is designed so that it cannot run a dvd-ram. the easiest console to cheat with is the now defunct dreamcast, this may be better for you, as you seem to be very cheap, you can pick up a used dreamcast for prolly $50, and then download and burn all the games your heart desires.

Ps2 and X-box are both good choices. You can not burn the games with the hardware you have, but mod chips are available for both systems, as well as games. PM me for info

Xbox is easily the better system of the lot of them power wise. WAY more powerfull in terms of graphics, sound and everything else.

Built in hard drive, etc it's just a better system all the way around.

The only "downside" is that Microsoft is behind it and some people just can't get over that.

The PS/2 is OK, I was excited at first then saw the graphics for the system on a TV and thought "Geesh haven't they heard of anti aliasing?" MAJOR jaggies around everything. VERY dissapointed.

Has a good game selection, Microsoft is going to catch them shortly

You said kids...the Game Cube is aimed at them but I don't think Nintendo is going to be making it much longer. Just a hunch

I'd say Xbox over all, just a better system.

Biased by someone who's owned and played most consoles made since the Atart 2600 of course. I still own a coleco vision, c64, Atari 2600, 5200, 7800, XGS, ST, Balleys Astrocade, Intellivision, Oddesy, Vectrex, TI 99/4A among other things

Xbox is the best system to have come out in a long long time, just a matter of getting them to produce something other then racing games for it.

The Dreamcast is a nice system but keep in mind there are no new games coming out for it state side.
