21 years old 4th year Engineering Physics student at Queen's Univesrity in Kingston, ontario Canada.

Currently working for Ontario Power Generation as a Nuclear Safety Analyst/Engineer.

Past employment were 2 summer's worth of Nuclear Design Engineering.

Have been doing nuclear related engineering for past 3 summers now.

I hate it.

Pay is good. Hence i drive a 89 TII and only work 4 months out of the year and have money to pay for mods, fuel, insurance, rent, food, and beer, text books, expensive dinners with hot dates and a bit of tunition as well.

Isn't that the same hob title Homer Simpson has? LOL
No he sits in the control room.

I sit in an office far far away from thenuclear power plants and push reports out hte door for the govt agencies to read to convince them the reactors are safe.

I also write the instructions/manuals for homer Simpson to read when **** hits the fan. I tell him which buttons to bush and when.

21, and depending on who you ask, I'm either a Property Administrator, or an Administrative Services Manager. I work for the state's fish and wildlife conservation agency full time, and take one class at a time at a community college (night school). I should have my AA by December, and spending the next 2 years getting my Business Administration degree (maybe double major in accounting). I was going towards Biology, but I decided I'd have a better chance in this field (plus the whole being-a-teen-parent thing threw a wrench in the plan). When I'm done with school, I'll have the degree, plus like 5 years experience in the appropriate field (translation- mucho potential $$$).

Am I the exception here? I seem to have a totally different occupation than everyone else.

Its 1:45 in the morning here and here I am looking at my computer because I cannot sleep. Stressing over work, employees, etc...

I hate Land Surveying and want out. BUT it is a very good living. So my plan is to pay off the mortgage then save up and start some other business that does not have all the liability.

94 you'll like this one.

Builder calls me today. The form board crew put the boards down wrong. I staked the house location and envelope as requested. I even did a form board location survey showing them exactly the configuration of the boards. The builder feels its my fault.

I told him that I did not put the boards down wrong and he needs to talk to his form crew. I gave them a survey showing the boards. WTF do they want me to do?? Their job??

I did nothing wrong and they try to blame me. No one steps up and says hey, I screwed up its my fault anymore. Everyone just points fingers.
HOlY CRAP!! That just gave me chills! I got tired of the liability also. After I took my exam and started weighing my options, I thought to myself this is stupid. Too much stress and liability and not enough fun and money. Too many pain in the *** contractors or clients. The final straw was when I surveyed a bldg envelope for a guy, they set it up wrong, went over the set back lines, and of course the blame was pointed at me. So true about pointing fingers....

howd u get a civil engineering degree at 18?
Didn't have a civil enginereering degree, I worked for a civil engineering firm as their surveyor. After 4 years in NC working under a licenced surveyor I was eligable to take my state exam. But I also did civil design and other work leaning toward the engineering side. I think after 20 years I could have taken my exam to become a licened engineer without having a degree.
