Naples teen dies after car slams into overpass

COLLIER COUNTY: A Naples teen died in a late night crash on Interstate 75 Tuesday night. It happened just before 11:30 p.m. at the Santa Barbara Boulevard overpass.

State troopers say 18-year-old Carlos Veitia-Perez was traveling westbound on I-75 when he lost control of his 2004 Mazda RX-8 and slammed into the overpass.

The impact was so strong he was thrown from the car.

Veitia-Perez was flown to Lee Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. State troopers say he was not wearing a seat belt.

Better advice would be to retain control and not to run into an overpass.... I've noticed they don't make a big deal about the seatbelt when someone is killed wearing one...

our police say everything was caused by excessive speed. i mean sure if you were stopped you wouldn't have hit the overpass, but even at 10mph its going to hurt...

Yeah we have those statements to, but when a cop here drove down a divided highway the wrong way, pissed out of his mind coming home from a superior officers BBQ/pissfest and killed 2 teens in a head on crash, it was found after much forensic examination of his SUV, underneath all the beercans, they found a small defect with his front brakes and was the cause of the accident.

Seatbelts were of course used as well.

lmao...

we had something like that happen here, officer fell asleep behind the wheel, swerved over to the other side and hit a couple of bikers. odd part is that he had just started his shift.

This has been the latest go to excuse for cops lately "The officer was working a double shift" "we're short staffed and don't have enough officers" etc, etc... That was the excuse they used in the jaycee duggard story, the officer was finishing up a double shift and didn't take time to do a background check.

Anyhow, I'm surprised that they said he fell asleep and ran over the bikers, usually it's something more like "the bikers were acting irratic and swerving all over the place, the officer tried to stop them as they were suspects in a liquor store robbery, unfortunately in the process he had a collision with the suspects" Later it was discovered that they were not the suspects in the robbery.

well they couldn't really cover, he didn't hit ALL of the bikers...

i dunno about short staffed, its hard to say. they have 7 sheriffs in santa clara county, at least at night, but it takes 5 of them to ask ivan why he's at tapioca express....

Dang bikers prolly had it coming. Who knows what atrocious crimes they had already committed. Lots of those bikers are Wall St. bankers and various other of society's dregs. Cop probably did us all a favor. No sense tying up the system with that "due process" crap.

In other news, I got my old KZ400 back. I'm gonna have a go at the biker lifestyle! Need to get some leather pants and some chains.
