I had the exact same thing happen to me. I did manage to get the metal sliver out myself, but not before it left a ring of rust in my eye. Went to the emergency room, sent me to an eye doctor, que the die grinder. Its not exactly a wonderful feeling watching someone take a grinder to your eye with nothing more than numbing drops in your eye. It took me a few minutes to be able to stand up.
yea, i had a kid at my shop get a piece of a wire wheel stuck in his eye, like a whole piece of wire right off the wire wheel went into his eye and was like sticking out. The ER managed to get that out.
the tool did remind me of a dremel, lol i got my eye ported, woo.

Been there, done that. Had to go to the ER last year to get a fleck of metal out of my eye.
Worst experience though was when i was working on aircraft, a close friend was the acting supervisor, i decided to throw one more rivet before dinner, but had removed my glasses and boom shot it into my eye. Now of course i couldnt go to the doctor as it would get my friend in trouble.
I do have poor vision in that eye now
not the one that had the metal though. That **** really hurt too, she scrubbed it out with a qtip and gave me a black eye she was reefing on it so hard.

YOu need to walk around with caution signs. DAMm all you guys have had something bad happen to you.. I guess i'll go on the no dumb *** rule. Wear safety goggles and a bright yellow jacket everywhere. THats SURE to keep me outta the ER

How close to your pupil was it? Mine left me with this blurry dot just offcenter in my vision. The mind compensates very well, but not perfectly. I can see it whenever I move my eyes quickly from side to side, or whenever Ive got my eyes open underwater.

it was seriously like a mm or 2 from my pupil. the eye was blurry today but after a quick drop of vigamox eye drops (prescription ****, cost me $50 and my insurance $36) it has cleared up. feels a ton better, or maybe thats the percs.
i have the black dots in my vision since i was little, i used to move my eyes around mad fast and i can see them and try to follow them lol.
