I enjoy working on cars, when i DONT have to.

I worked at a buddies shop back in the 90's during my divorce, really came to depise my tools and looking at other peoples crap.

If I was young/single again, I would find a carreer path other than automotive: But; I think I would take classes to bone up on basics and techniques, and then as the money permitted I would attend:

TinMans Aluminum Welding and Fabrication Classes

Lincoln Techs Advanced Welding School

EFI Uniiversity

Fay Butlers Metal Forming Workshop

EFI University MOTECH Class

Some good CNC Programming Course

Etc.

That way, I would be building a platform of skills to advance my hobby. Being a line mechanic at a dealership is not conducive to coming home to wrench on the project car

lots of people tell me about how good i am with cars and how i know alot.. blah blah.. then they say.. why dont you look for a job in that field.. or open a shop? well i share Banzai's outlook on it.. I like doin this because i love it as a hobby.. but if it were my job i would soon lose the love and have it turn into hate .. so its a trade off.. i dont even like doin lots of side jobs for people.. because it becomes a hassle.. i only build and do certain jobs that i know will be cool and challenging.. and not to often.. im choosy because i never wanna lose the passion i have for workin and learnin about cars...

DO NOT GO TO UTI!!!!

I CANNOT URGE THIS ENOUGH!!!!

If you want to pay 30k + to learn how to change oil, check a spark plug, and change brake pads, then by all means go for it. But if you have any, I mean any basic knowledge about cars, then you would be wasting your time.

Me and 4 other friends went down to the Phoenix campus after high school and ALL of us dropped out in about 4 phases. That school is a joke and they tell you these amazing lies to get you to go there. Every kid that goes there is a straight ricer. They are all idiots, and the teachers are almost as dumb.

I urge you to take me seriously here.

I wanted to get out of that school after the 2nd class, but I kept telling myself, naw, it will get harder, then I found out when I was in my 4th phase that the 3 I had been in before were the "hardest ones", i dropped that school in a heartbeat.

Sorry for the rant, I just promised myself I would do anything I could to stop people from wasting there time on that wretched place.

Thank you.

Im assuming I know you, since I know nick and them(nick being the only one that actually finished from MN) and I couldnt disagree with you more. Yes the school is expensive, do I think its worth the 25k for the base auto program? Not if I was paying for all it, thankfully my parents have money put away for school.

You have to understand UTI is based toward people who know nothing about cars, or at least do not know very much. The first couple of classes are so basic it will make you want to stab yourself in the *****, sure. If any of you are thinking of going to the school talk to someone who has actually finished!

I went to a community college auto program before going to uti and it was insane how shitty it was compared. It makes me laugh because the only people who actually hate uti are the ones that dropped out and doing nothing, and I guess they feel like they have to bitch because they wasted there time? I graduated a few months ago and have got 2 weeks left of the toyota TPAT training program here in chicago(went to core in phoenix).

Almost every school out there is overrated, overhyped and shut down by people that go there, that is the life of an autotech student surrounded by rednecks who beat off to much I guess? If you have money and you want one of the better schools around, go there(along with lincoln tech and others).

Ahh, hello matt, im talking to nick online right now, now i remember you(nick, 91 mr2t)

-nick

Looks like English Comp wasnt a pre-requisite (I know its a BIG word, but it means requirement) for admission. Might I suggest a refresher course in English?
