I super generous rx7 driver and friend loaned me his Flux core welder to patch up my rust hole. All I can say is this thing is tricky. I've taken a long course on TIG welding and can weld steel, and aluminum very well. I can MIG ok, but I can't get the hang of this flux core welder.

The only settings are high and low for the voltage/current and the wire speed. The welder starts by contact of the wire with the base metal and the trigger advances the wire feed. Unlike the MIG machines i've used where you can pretty much rest the wire on the part to be welded and hit the trigger. It's kidna like stick welding but you only have an on off switch to control the amount of weld to push into the metal. The machine is 115V AC single phase so it's nothing too spectacular.

I guess i'm not use to the imprecise welding of a flux core/MIG type welder. I'm definitly used to having the ability to control heat with the foot pedal, start the current off small, and slowly work vs just jam it in there and fire.

ok keep it on the low voltage/current setting and increase the wirespeed a bit makes for decent tack welds. However the splatter is pretty severe still.

You could probably rent a welder you're familiar with for $50 a day.

Place here in London rents gas powered arc welders for $42 overnight.

edit: here's a place I found with google;

ARRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHH!

WRONG TOOL FOR THE JOB!!!!

Flux core is for heavier gage work. You need a REAL MIG welder.

I've never heard of these Flux Capacitor welders.

Uses different wire that isnt supposed to splatter, I have one it sucks but I welded my airboat trailer with it just fine.
