thinking about going German...

you can pick up a 1990 c4 for 10-15. and the AWD.
but the prices for parts on these cars are sickening. 1500 per fender. thats making me second guess going porsche for a while. we'll see, if i find a good one in no need of body work. paint is fine. but no sheet metal work. i might pick it up.

well, i found a site that sells aftermarket parts for 911's and there about a third the price. my hopes are back up again. so instead of 3k just for 2 fenders. i could get both a 1 piece front (light weight and damn good looking) and big wind deck lid for about 2k. all high quality fiber glass.
not bad...

I sold mine about 5 months ago, too many toys and I love my RX7 more.
That said I had a hotrodded out 1980 911 Targa with a 3.6 swapped in from a 1990 model making in the 350 HP range, the car weighed around 2300 lbs and it was a rocket ship!
Your right about parts, they are not Mazda's and that was a deciding factor for me selling it. I owned mine for 3 years and never had a single problem and I put close to 20K miles on a car that had 160K miles on it chassis.
I autocrossed it a few times and took it up to the Tail of the Dragon a few times and it is just a blast to drive hard. All that talk about the rear end being heavy and biting you in the *** when you get out of wack is simply not true, it no worse than my RX7, and as a matter of fact I quite enjoyed getting the rear out and using th go pedal to make it behave.

On the Tail of the Dragon - I had my son in the car so the drive was an easy one. Not like when I chase my friends down it solo.

Just being sexy:
I miss that car a lot, and here is the cool pat, I got 25 MPG city and 33 HWY with it. I could go over 450 miles before a fillup on roadtrips and it would take about 14 gallons to fill it back up. I had to decide which toy went and to be honest, I paid 22K for my 911 and drove it for 3 years and sold it for 21K. They hold their value, I have 40K+ invested into my RX7 and would be lucky to get 9K for it. The choice was obvious to me. Plus my RX7 will wax that 911, I just do not look as cool doing it.
Pelican parts is a good source for parts and their forum classifieds is a great place to find big parts like fenders for good prices.

we are roadracing a lot, so this is kinda where i'm coming from
FC > 944. even NA FC vs turbo 944, the FC is better.
911's.... i like the 74-88 body, non turbo. we've been calling the porsche race group the luftwaffe, more wings than a honda meet.... their gurney flaps are bigger than our wing! they are in 2 groups, turbo and non.
interestingly our 135hp acura would finish midpack in either of the two porsche gruppen.
if you get stuck doing an engine in the porsche, its way expensive.
