I'll start.

16 years ago my cousin let me borrow his 911T for a day. It had a 2.7 litre engine in it prepared by Black Forest Racing the car had full racing suspension, headers and open exhaust, it was very loud, it also had a set of Yoko A-008R's on 15" Rims. This was a track car on the street. My cousin was a driving instructor at Moroso and taught the agrssive driving course Porsche gave to its new 911 owners.

It handled like a go kart and was so fast that I could let a Z-28 or 5.0 get a 1/2 to full interesection lead in a red light race and I would fly by them like they were standing still.

I took it up to 150 on the interstate in Ft. Lauderdale. Fastest I had been in a car until I got my RX-7.

I was getting braver and braver with exit ramps taking them at 70+ MPH. I was doing about 85 down a ramp off of I-95 heading onto Yomato Rd. West Bound. I looked over at the traffic looked back out in front and was deep into the curve about to run off the road. I jerked the wheel really hard and the car oversteered. I let off the gas (HUGE MISTAKE) and tried to coutersteer it. It snapped steered the other way and I suddenly became balast in the drivers seat.

I punched the brake as hard as I could and pushed the clutch too.

I did a 540 down Yomato missing cars by inches. I ended up in the middle grass median. Not a scratch to the car. I let out the clutch and stalled it. LOL. Restarted, pulled up to a red light adn had a Caddy Vert pull up full of people cheering that, that was the coolest thing they had ever seen.

I wasnt sharing their enthusiasm.

I told my cousin what happened and he went in to eplain how to handle a rear engine RWD car in an oversteer situation. He never got mad. I just talked to him the other day he lives in NYC now. I want him to come to an autocross and Co-Drive with me. He used to tear it up back in the day in the Autocrosses too.

Looking back.. I was going way too fast. More car than ability I had no clue what snap steer was or how to correctly recover from oversteer with a Rear Engine RWD car. Let alone any car. I am glad my cousin was so cool.

Do trucks count?

The one night I was coming home from my friends house. It had been snowing so I was ******* around in 2 wheel drive. I would punch the gas and have the rear end kick out then let off and correct it. I did it a few times before I couldn't correct it in time.

I cut the wheel to the left the ass end just swung around like a pendulum, So I cut it to the left to counter but I turned too hard and it swung around the other way I tried one last time to counter and thats when i slid off the side of the road hit the curb and had the right side of the truck pop off the ground.

I sat there for a minute wondering what the hell just happened when i realized I was facing the opposite direction I was traveling in. Just as I see a tow truck drive right past me. I then get a call from a friend that was in front of me asking what the hell I was doing cause all he saw was my headlights swinging back and forth across the road.

I drove the rest of the way home in 4 wheel. Luckily it was an empty industrial road.

i was taking a turn near my house, i took the turn about as fast as i thought the car could take it (might have been a little faster) and it was my first time really driving a rwd car, so when i was coming out of the turn i put my foot into it a little bit more, which was just enough to brake the tires loose. i tried to countersteer to get it to straighten out (was a small two lane road with a center divider). but anyways, i wasnt quite good enough, and my rear wheel hit the curb, and then the front one did. scraped the wheels up pretty good, the rear sus was kinda messed up and it broke the axle on that side. im not sure how exactley i hit the curb (wheter the car was straightening out or if i was still moving over that way too much)

Dysfnctnl85 12-15-2004 10:38 PM

Some buddies and I went cruising our senior year in HS. We decided it would be cool to do an interstate run.

135+ for a little while. Scariest and most exhilirating thing I've ever done.

rfreeman27 12-15-2004 10:40 PM

I was messing around in an industral park with the FD. Taking corners with oversteer and such. I was doing pretty good and was driving at a fairly high limit. I went into a turn a hair too hot, hit some gravel **** and spun into the grass. When i stopped i was about 2 feet from a tree.

No longer do i mess around in the car like that...

I think thats pretty much it though, no more close calls really...

does doing 165+ on the highway count? (yess...)

j9fd3s 12-15-2004 10:43 PM

one of the most heart stopping moments was when we used to go racing up in the mountains and we were going back home all in a row. so i come around this blind corner and theres koji in his white fc BACKWARDS in my lane, i look in the mirror and theres the higdagon right on my bumper, i dont even remember thinking about it but we just passed koji in the other lane.

stuff like that is why i dont go up in the hills with the group anymore!

vosko 12-15-2004 10:47 PM

i jumped a 6inch high curb with one of my fc's..... popped two tires!!! got real lucky. so many crazy things.......falling asleep and hitting a guard rail??

Dakmis 12-15-2004 11:00 PM

doing a 360 around this corner. starting from the bottom.

Where do I start?

I don't know how to drift, but something always interested me about it so whenever I get a chance to practice, I don't miss it.

At work we pretty much have only FWD cars so there's no drifting involved only handbrake powerslides which are fun too. One night on my way to grab some food in a brand new Dodge Neon SXT, slight rain had fallen and I figured I couldn't break anything on the car so I went for it.

Nothing major at first, only pulling the E-Brake for a sec to see what the car would do. Then as I turned into the parking lot of a Wendy's I pulled it and held the brake for a second as I turned the wheel. Needless to say, I spun out like a **********er and ended up facing the way I came in.

I was scared shitless, the car was unharmed, and nobody saw it since it was pretty late and dark outside.

Also, a few weeks ago coming from work in the Civic, rainy night as well, I pulled the E-Brake accidently to far up trying to get my CD Player out from under it, it must have locked the rears up for a good 3 seconds which felt like eternity. I spun out the same way I did with the neon but on a congested 4 lane street. I hit the clutch and luckily didn't stall the bitch and just quickly turned her around. I keep my CD player in the glove box from now on.

I've got a million of these stories.

Dramon_Killer 12-15-2004 11:18 PM

Even though we was goin through our drama i would never wish death upon noone, cuz ain't no comin back from that.

bodzilla02 12-15-2004 11:29 PM

A couple times in peticular come to mind, out of a lot. The first was last summer, I had an asian girl over for the night who lived a state away. We were up real late that night yada yada... got less than 2 hours of sleep and had to get up for my friends graduation that day. Of course I was dead tired... That night after the graduation and party and all that, I was bringing her home at about 1am and was doing everything I could to stay awake, so she helped. Anyways... after I dropped her off I had another 2 hour drive home, mostly highway driving. I had to keep stopping at rest stops and going into bathrooms to slash cold water on my face and keep getting candy and more sugar to give me energy, which worked for about 20 mins after I left. I kept falling asleep at the wheel and waking up on the other side of the road, luckily with no cars coming. It was scary as hell and I barely made it home. The other time that came to mind was after I first got my Nissan, I took it out after our last snow storm that year. I came down my road through the windy part (I did not know how to drift) and figured I would try snow drifting. I gave it too much gas and it went right sideways, and I wasn't used to rear wheel drive to I tried to countersteer and give it more gas but I just slid out of control and off the road into a huge snowbank... and rolled myself very slowly up into a telephone pole, barely tapped it so it made no mark. Except my car was stuck in a huge snowbank and my front bumper was screwed, which led to the body kit in the late spring. I had to have my stepdad come down with his truck and pull me out of the snowbank haha.

not nessicarly stupid in the common sense, more that i didnt realize what my car could do, i was goin up an on ramp on my way home in the 510, it was raining a while before that, and all of a sudden the turbo spooled, my rear tire's broke loose, and i spun three damn times before i hopped a curb, busted my fuel line, and came to a stop, only damage to the car was the fuel line and the little puddle in the seat https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...1047683785.gif my buddy was with me and as soon as we got the car off the road he called his ex to let her know he loved her, i had a good laugh at that, i somehow find things that scare other people shitless pretty damn funny, i was laughin my ass off

jspecracer7 12-16-2004 12:02 AM

I raced a Supra at 130+ mph (both of us N/A) thru a speed trap. I didn't have insurance/state inspection sticker/city sticker/registration was expired and I had a radar detector (Illegal in VA). The police officer wrote me a ticket for having a radar detector.

And I beat the supra.

In high school we use to jump this section of rail road tracks that could get you some tremendous air if you were going fast enough. I was riding in the back of my friends old chevy Luv pickup when we took the jump at about 75-80 mph. I was sitting right in the middle of the bed with my back to the cab, holding onto the sides of the bed as best I could. When we came down my ass was probably 10 or more inches in the air and it hurt like hell when we landed. I'm glad I was hanging on, otherwise I probably would of flown out. The road eventually got blocked off so you couldn't get to the tracks.

Learned to drive in a Ford Ka (bad idea because they like to be driven), a few months on the road, came to a 90 degree corner a little to fast and started understeering. Enede up stopping literally 2 inches from a gate.

Baldy 12-16-2004 06:22 AM

Long righthand turn on a wide dirt road in the forest, I decide to give it a little gas to see what it would do. Slid the rear out, counter steered, and the open diff made it really unpredictable. I fishtailed back and forth a few times before spinning and going rear-first onto the dirt embankment (~1' high). Busted a hole in the already rusted stock muffler.

After I got an LSD, tried the same damn thing. Slid the rear out, counter steered, but I didn't steer enough, ran the front end up onto the dirt. Because of the small yet substantial dirt banks, I considered this situation safe enough (wasn't going very fast), but that's probably the most "I'm completely out of control" thing I've done in the car.

I go to an empty lot on occasion when it's rained, so "see what it would do" so I'm not caught off guard with the RWD.

j9fd3s 12-16-2004 10:54 AM

when i worked at almaden we cleared out the back by parts, so we had our own parking, because our cars kept getting hit in the parking lot. but it being a dealership the idiot salesmen kept parking cars back there, so we would have to move em. when they were 626's i used to move them, and move the shifter from d-n-d-n-r-n-d, i figure its gonna need a tranny anyways. then usually id throw the keys over the fence, cause it was more money for us (they bought about $1000 in keys a month)

i also have memories of driving my brothers saab down the street with the rear wheels locked up https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...#>/biggrin.png

he somehow got ahold of a 13b factory race engine and put it in his repu (i think his wife still drives the truck), now one of the old school rotary building tennents is to put the fast motor in a car with no brakes and stock suspension. apparently the truck would do 0-100 in the length of the chevy dealership (100yards?).
