The way I understand it : A 3 liter v6 only displaces 1.5 liters. The way they measure displacement : They Measure Bottom dead center (BDC) To top dead center (tdc), thats the height. Then the diameter of the cylinder. Then Diameter* pi=circumference. Circ.*height=volume. Thats the volume for one cyl. Times it by the # of cylinders and that is the engine size.

If a 1 cylinder engine was being measured like this it would be accurate, BUT not in multicylinder engines.

Example: 4 cyl engine. 2 cyls are TDC and 2 are BDC so only the 2 that are BDC are actually displaceing anything.

Tell me if you get what I'm saying.

You want to measure the AREA of the bore, not the circumference. pi * DIA * DIA / 4 = AREA * STROKE * NUMBER OF CYLINDERS = volume displacement



STROKE = distance from BDC to TDC
