The FD blew the engine on the first lap. It was overrevved when downshifting into the hairpin. He managed to limp around another lap before pulling into the pits. It does get shown several times sitting in the pit lane in the background as they follow the leaders. At least that's something.

 

Damn, I didn't watch that....come to think of it, I haven't watched Speed in months.
