I say there is absolutely no point in spending the extra cash on the mac if you need a basic pc.. But if you are in the market for that price range its an option. Just get good warranty.. regardless of the fanatics Macs have good and bad reviews just like the rest of the large companies. Like i said in the previous posts, its a good option, but for less money you can get a very capable pc/laptop. I think macs are just more trendy. I still see no reason to jump on the bandwagon just because.

dollar for dollar i get more performance from a pc.. hardware wise, but im into certain games.. and they have liitle mac support. Its the only reason i have not bought one. The macs do have better software packages and I imagine thats why the price is much higher. I dislike lots of other Mac things not related to their computers, and these were aspects of why one would not like a Microsoft program, now they are doin it. I think it is just the natural progression. I suffer from no hardcore allegiance to any brand. I look at the price. Mac as baldy said are damn pricey. thats why i would not get one for my personal use. For the wife though, i think not having her bug me about the little windows problems that arise would be worth the cash.. Also I think about my laptop gettin stolen from the rig. It all comes down to the use you have planned and where you plan to use it.

So to sum it up, ALL users that have first hand experience using both pc's and macs are saying the mac is worth the extra money. All users that have only PC experience, recommend the PC.

I was a teacher for a while at a vocational college teaching Photoshop, we had labs with both types of computers. At my sister's old job at a catholic school I helped set up her computers in the classroom, all macs. I'd say i have my fair share of experience with them.. then only mac i ever had at home was one i did not buy. I have seen most of the stuff they have and its cool. Since Vista Came out I have not bought into that. and if windows doesnt get its **** straight soon there will be a shift to the macs inevitably. That is the only reason i have considered a mac for me in the near future.

Oh by the way, if the question is get a mac or a netbook.. its not even the same ball park.. Mac will be way better.. Netbooks are very watered down. Oh and according to the queston about them having problems, I say if there is a mac store nearby like there is for it would be good.. then when you have a problem you can go to the store and have the mac genius guys or whatever they call them fix it..

ok,, i think phins and I can both agree, "you get what you pay for" if you get a pc that is cheaper, you will do more work to make it work to your liking. If you get a mac you will pay a bit more and have it make you happy out of the box either way, if you can spring for the warranty it will better regardless of where you go, but get a machine that has a retail outlet close to you or at home service. I m sure the mac guys will be more knowledgeable that the guys at best buy or a similar place...

I bought my first mac last year, the giant screen one piece thingy, its been very stable and hasnt had any major issues when used with genuine mac software.. I put firefox on it and firefox seems to have some issues, but thats firefox not the mac..

If you buy a mac and buy mac specific stuff they are great. I notice some of the cheaper peripherals meant for PC's don't install easily on the mac.. It took me alot longer to setup a cheapo inkjet on it then it did my pc, but it might also just might I am not totally in tune with the Mac OS as I am with windows XP..

My Compaq laptop i use for tuning and travel has been a workhorse though..Its a commercial style machine, not as video bias as some machines, but a very robust computer.

Thanks for the input fellas. Either way we'll probably get a mac anyways, because so far I've been unhappy with what we've had, and ready to try something new. Plus Edna wants one, and I think any decent guy knows how much that vote counts for.

But it's nice to have some different viewpoints.

If I ever get another desktop, I'm sure I'll get some local joe to build one for me. If the parts are interchangeable, I don't mind taking a chance, but with a laptop I want something that works better than what I've had in the past.

if the wife wants it- get it no questions asked.

My wife does not ask for much, so if its reasonable I give in, lets me get away with alot more.

Bring home a $20 bouqet of flowers and I get treated like a king.
