smoke problem

Almost every time I start my car ( 89 n/t ) it smokes it's A$$ off, there's a few things that may be the problem, but I would like some more suggestions of what it may be?............

mine did that before the engine blew. It was the coolant seals going bad. Hopefully thats not the case with yours, but it sounds awfully familiar
