Seen my first sistership to our boat today
#1
So there were only 25 of our boats made, actually 25 hulls made, most of the 3-46's weren't completed at the factory. I came home last night and way on the other dock I notice a boat, at first I said "Oh **** that's a lapworth boat" (bill lapworth designed the boat). I get a little close and say "oh crap it's a cal 46, must be a 2-46" So i have to look at the front of it to know if it's a 2 or a 3, but I'm figuring the odds of 10% of all the boats made in one little marina are not good, sure as hell it's a 3-46, only other one i have ever seen, I know of one other one that a couple are cruising in in asia, but I have not seen the boat.
So I go over today to talk to them cause you know it's a small group and all and I find out a bunch of cool stuff, we have some mutual aquaintences that own 2-46's, etc, etc... They sailed through the panama canal from california in 2005 and have been cruising the island ever since. I ask them if they heard what happened to Bill's original boat when he died last year (both the owner and the boat builder retired onto boats like ours). He says and here's what makes me sad, that a couple bought it from teh Estate and were in Marsh Harbour in may WHEN WE WERE THERE. Come to find out the boat had all of Bill's journals, the original scketches all kinds of cool stuff and the couple had no idea what it was or what it means to the rest of us. I'd have bought it off them right there! They did keep teh name of the boat teh same and it was in great shape they said.
Ok so enough of stories no one cares about, glad I could share.
