1. The car's motor isnt broken in and you complain about HP. I have seen with my own two eyes, a VERY tightly built (zero tolerance) nissan v6 make 47hp more on the 20th dyno pull versus the first. The motors arent supposed to go above 3k rpm for the first 1k-2k miles right? The seals haven't seated fully. And according to Mazda North America the Renesis was built very "tight" and will take in exess of 2k miles to FULLY break in and begin creating any sort of hp.
2. Chassis dyno's are ******* stupid IMO. They are an inaccurate and non-scientific way to measure a motor's output. It all to easy to lie with one also....be it a 5th gear pull. Or the 400hp 1st gear pull I did with my stock vert, just for a joke. No I don't have a printout
3. This is the new trend with "sporty" cars these days. Like what happened with the new Nissan sentra se-r. The motor was rated at 195hp on the crank, and it was putting down about 140hp on the rollers, pure gay.
4. I drove an rx-8 today, and it was single handedly the best handling stock car i have ever driven. Significantly better balance than even the venerable Z06 corvette. And the 350z is a ******* dog compared to it
5. Just wait until the renesis comes in crate form. as it will for the star mazda pro series cars
enough with this ham-fistedness, shut up and drive the car

this is a wonderful list of personal opinions apex13b.
I drove a 350z automatic that would smoke the 6 speed rx-8 we test drove. Is this useful? not really. you attack dynos, claim the motor will have more power after break-in, and as a result present the idea that the rx-8 is not down on power and is inline with mazda originally claimed. How amusing this is considering mazda has already confessed the car is down on power. But then you go on to say it is a trend now to claim more horsepower than the cars actually put out.
RX-8 vs Z06? hahahahahah
can you please clarify your post and what the point was you were trying to get across? Do you believe the RX-8 was not falsely advertised with more power than it has or was it?
Pengaru, when he compared the RX-8 to the Z06, I'm pretty sure he said it was a better handling car, not that it would necessarily when in a race. I mean, how could it?
And of course this is all interpretation and personal opinion, but whatever.

Only cars that make me do that now are one's I can't or will ever be able to afford........

especially if the paint didnt come off in sheets and the dealers knew how to work on twin turbo systems.
FD's had paint problems?

the early FD's did, I thought this was a widely known fact? With the early models the base coat didnt adhere to the primer apparently. Mazda repainted a number of cars under warranty as a result. Now when you go buy a used FD, it's not uncommon to find ones with the paint coming off in large chunks because they have not been repainted.
it's mentioned here:
http://www.scuderiaciriani.com/rx7/buying.html
Some early cars also had exterior paint problems, where the color coat did not adhere properly to the primer. By now most of those cars have been touched up or completely repainted, so don't disqualify a repainted car as a candidate for purchase. (Ed. note - the '95s at least did not have these problems.)
if you search google for rx-7 paint peeling chipping etc you will find more information about it.

if the rx-8 is losing so much power at the drivetrain then would a fc or fd put the power down better? i think so. how cool would that be a 250hp starting point for the rotary enthusiest. and i believe that greddy is working on a turbo system for it. i remember reading something from scc a few issues ago. and the fixing of the exhaust ports should fix the detanation problems for high boost hopefully. but im no renesis expert so dun bash me if im wrong.
