Actually, it looks like its not running, and its not even in decent shape. I can pick it up for cheap, but I don't know if I would have the time or available space to work on it. Any thoughts?

Well, the body is straight, with only some bad paint to deal with. The interior is not the cleanest, but that can be taken care of. I need to check the thing out some more for rust, but I didn't see any the last time I looked at the car. The guy says that the engine doesn't run, but he's not sure why. The thing is, I've got a guy who may be able to hook me up with a running 12A from a 1st gen RX-7, so I would probably have a motor to drop in. Basically, I'd want to clean the thing up, get it running, and have a nice little runabout that no-one else has. I think it would be a fun project, but it would certainly divert money away from my GTU.

Hey Dysthymia, Wooffinn here. Don't listen to these guys. An Rx-2 is always worth it! :P I'm and Rx-2/616 nut.[ 6 Rx-2's and 12 616's and I've still got 4 of them at the moment!] Most of your parts will swap quite happily from the 616[Capella] ie interior, panels. As for rust, besides the external stuff you can see, check inside your boot, especially in the spare tyre area, around the windscreens[ they weren't fitted with drains] and under the front guards [ there wasn't drains in the front of the chassis rails]
Also just make sure the battery hasn't leaked as it has a uncanny way of the excess acid to run down the chassis rail and attack around the steering arms!
If you get the Rx-7 running gear, you'll probably need to modify the engine mount bracket to suit as the position of the vary a bit. They handle quite well being lowered because of the four coil/ strut system. Just check the rear panhard rod bushes as there're usually stuffed and cause the diff to move sideways! Any more questions, just ask.

the rx2 is way better than your gtu. the 12a will basically drop right in, you can either use the rx2 smog stuff, or the rx7 stuff they both will work. the front rx7 struts will also go in, it lowers the car like 2-3" and gives you bigger brakes. the bolt pattern for the wheels are the same, so you can use any 1st gen rx7 wheel.
look for rust in the same spots ruffin says, my r100 had a leaky battery and it drained into the frame rail and its gone way down at the bottom of the car.
