Rotaries Blow Up?
#81
Can you rotary fella's explain the following then?:
Why, even those I know that know what they're doing, still rebuild motors around 70k...as if no matter how well you set up the cooling, turbo, afr....
Why I hear of FD's blown because they took a turn too fast with less gas in the tank?
Why, despite taking care of running lean, heat soak, and misfiring issues, rotary owners still tell me the Coolant seals will pwn my motor by 100k anyways?
Is this discussion sticking to only serious, raced Rotary engines? I mean taunting Piston-heads with the 787b doesn't say much...it's an NA. Us "Normal" folk in our FD's get power by boosting a 2 rotor+ 1 or 2 turbo motor...very different.
There are THAT many more Rx7's both new and old (NOT just FD's) going on 2nd or even 3rd motors than there are Supra's, SR20 equipped cars, etc etc.

lets not forget the EXTREME displacement difference between "the fastest cars" and those with rotary engines. we have 1.3 litres, and sometimes we may have 2.0, SOMTIMES. and im assuming your referring to 1/4 mile cars, where the engines have 10 litres of displacement and rebuild after every race, what the hell kind of a comparison is that!? get the **** off the internet.
and ill bet that if this isnt a forum member, he doesnt drive.

O.K. An FD comes stock with 255 HP most will modify until seeing about 375-400 RWHP. So they essentially have 460 at the flywheel or they have added 205HP to the stock output or even better 180% of the stock output. Plus it will run the 1/4 in about 12 seconds flat.
What does a Supra put out stock? 320HP? So a comprably modded Supra would have to make 576 HP. How long will it last? Also how much HP will a Supra need to run a 12 flat 1/4 mile. Probably more than 576 flywheel.
My buddy had a Turbo Eclipse with 400FWHP and is on engine #4. He has a friend with a Supra making 700RWHP+ 3 engines blown. Ialso met a guy with a 500 FWHP Integra 4 engines blown.
When you modify a Turbo car you have made the concious decision to shorten its engine life, period.

Just questions about facts/rumours that bug me...and some are sad truths thats all.
