So I'm sitting behind some stopped traffic on a bridge minding my own business. I reach over to mess with the radio and look at the pristine 2 door red Alfa Romeo classic roadster stopped in front of me. Then I felt / heard the loudest bang I have ever experienced . . . everywhere all around me like an explosion. Quite shocked I regain my vision of the inside of the car only to see that I am laying down and the remains of the back seat is to my immediate right. I sit up and turn off the ignition and try to open the door. No luck, it was jambed completely stuck. So I try the passenger side, same story. So I roll down the power window and crawl out to see the faces of a few guys looking at me as if I were a ghost.

I find the pavement under my feet and look at my car and the ones in front and behind it. The rear trunk and basically everything behind the rear wheels was now in the shape of tin foil. The Taurus that hit me must have been going 40+ in what is supposed to be a 25 zone; he must have not paid attention to the traffic stopped ahead. The impact of his car hitting mine launched my car into the Alfa, which was 10 feet in front of me, now with its rear end smashed. This thing was pristine and the guy said that he just finished restoring it.

I went to the hospital to get some x rays of my neck and now here I am, four hours later recounting the experience. What a rush! And my fu#$ing Integra is now a heap of crushed metal.

I am thankful that I didn't get any kind of real injuries, and glad that I decided to use the Integra for daily driving duties instead of the FC.

To anyone using your FC as a daily driver, don't let some moron **** up your night from behind! Get a nice beater.

pengaru 12-12-2003 10:18 PM

glad you're ok, that really sucks.

yet another reason to have a beater for a DD, the more you drive a car in traffic, especially rush traffic, more likely you are to get smashed into.

and people ask me why I like working the night shift.... https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...>/rolleyes.gif

Eric Happy Meal 12-12-2003 10:18 PM

damn....that sucks. my moms back is messed up completely from a rear end collision, shes had back pains since it happened, about 14 or so years ago. but at least it wasnt your fc.

Digisan 12-12-2003 10:39 PM

That sucks man, I hope you feel OK tomorrow, that's when you'll know if you're hurt.

vosko 12-12-2003 10:42 PM

sorry to hear it

Cheers! 12-12-2003 10:45 PM

glad to hear your ok. Now go find a lawyer so u can be driving a FD

He he, we'll see if I can still move tomorrow. Honestly I don't think I am injured. I broke the passenger seat apart with my body mass as my car was launched forward. I wonder how many G's that was. My Gtech was not hooked up at the time.

I'd be happy if I got a couple thousand to get another beater with. I've always wanted a late 80's 16v Scirocco for some reason.

Srce 12-13-2003 01:13 AM

Lucky bastard, I'm glad you're alive.

88IntegraLS 12-13-2003 01:39 AM

Thanks guys. You are all so nice here.

BigTurbo74 12-13-2003 01:45 AM

well damn since you are alright and what not,,, did the guy with the alfa get pist and start throwin bows or what!? was the guy drunk?

Bio-Weapon 12-13-2003 01:52 AM

Oh man!

Didnt you just spin your FC recently? That really really sucks! Two cars in a short period of time... wow. Must not be your month. Good that youre OK on both accounts though. Good luck getting the FC back to pristine condition and good luck on finding a new beater https://www.nopistons.com/forums/pub...IR#>/smile.png

wait, were you the driver or passenger?

Cheers! 12-13-2003 03:02 AM

you realize even though you got rear ended which caused your car to be launched into the alfa infront of you, the fault for your car vs the alfa lies on you.

The initial collision between the taurus and you is the taurus's fault, but the secondary collision even though it was caused by the intial event from a 3rd party means your insurance company pays the alfa insurance company.

Well that is how it works here in Toronto. I'm not sure about you, i know in different provinces in Canada there are different policies.

If your insurance company is paying to re-restore an expensive alfa, you can be damned sure you are on the NO NO DO NOT RENEW 88integraLS's insurnace when time comes or they will raise your rates once they settle.

88IntegraLS 12-13-2003 03:08 AM

That is the most ridiculous **** I have ever heard. If someone smacks you from behind at 40+, your car is going to move forward beyond your control. How could being the center billiard ball of what turned into a pool match with 3000 pound objects be anyone's fault but the original projectile's driver in command? Bullshit.

rx7_re 12-13-2003 04:58 AM

damn, glad to hear your alright and that it wasn't the FC.

I hit a Camaro from behind at 35mph and she hit the car in front of her who hit the truck in front and I had to pay for all 3 vehicles... it wasn't their fault.

He was hit by a Taurus. Really. How much do you think he will get?? He is lucky if the Taurus driver was actually insured.

vancouverrx7 12-13-2003 09:36 AM

i think in Cheers! might be refering to a different scenario. I believe he's refereing to this. If the car ahead of you stops and you rear end it, then you're insurance company has to pay. And if a 3rd car rear ends you, who rear ended the 1st car, then this 3rd car has to pay for your rear end damage.

But if BOTH of the cars are at a stop, and a car rear ends you and you launch into the car ahead of you, then it's the last person's fault.

I'm sure that's how it works in Vancouver and in New Jersey.

In anycase, damn glad you're ok... are you planning to sue?

CrassFC3S 12-13-2003 09:41 AM

yeah **** that taurus if it would of hit my fc i would of gotten out and stabbed him in the neck with anything within reach, hope youre still feeling cool and hey at least it was only a honda

SpecialT 12-13-2003 10:08 AM

Well, glad to hear you're ok!

Sorry about your cars though, first the FC and now this!

Best of luck to you!

Just beware of that "bad things come in 3's" saying. . .

Be safe, Stay home!

75 Repu 12-13-2003 10:51 AM

Glad you are OK man.. The same thing happened to my buddy..

I think every state is a little different here. Not every state holds the rear-ender totally accountable if there are extenuating circumstances i.e. you were hit from behind therefore you hit the guy in front of you.

Don't sweat it everything will work out.

Glad to see you are ok. The next day is always the worse though.

i.didnt.do.it 12-13-2003 11:46 AM

Got pics of the destruction?

Cheers! 12-13-2003 12:36 PM

i'm pretty sure i'm correct in this situation. A friend with a first gen got launched into a mercedes e class last year and that is how the insurance company played the situation

i guess different countries/provinces/states have different polcies on these things

wow if you arent in pain tomorrow you will be when you get that sirocco

88IntegraLS 12-13-2003 02:01 PM

Thanks for all the input and concern. I feel sore but not as bad as I thought I would today. I went and finalized the police report today and got some advice from a few sources, and I have decided to contact an accident / injury attorney for further input on my situation.

I was pretty cool after the crash but really wound up inside, and I still am. The Taurus driver had insurance; everyone involved had insurance but if any of them try to pull this "no fault state" **** then I will sue to the limit of my ability. If they even imply that I had any fault in this by obeying traffic laws (speed limit, basic rule, paying attention 10 seconds ahead to traffic and road conditions) while the person who caused the crash violated more than a few of them, everything is fair game as far as I am concerned. If this guy's insurance co. or my own want to fight dirty then that is how it will begin, and there are quite a few laywers out there who want to make a commission off peoples' accidents. I'm willing to settle this within reason, but not if I am accused of being responsible for any of the hell that broke loose all around me last night.

And yes, I made a typo above when I wrote that the passenger seat came apart; it was actually the drivers seat that separated and collapsed, as I was the only one in the car. I'll get some pics of the destruction on Monday when the tow yard is open.

Turbo II 12-13-2003 03:21 PM

Here is the inside. I guess the seat didn't break completely apart, but the reclining mechanism must have broken.
