to be honest the only thing worth buying is a jammer. all a detector will do is detect, and that means all that happend was you know the cop got your speed. so your know you're screwed earlier that's all.
And V1 is the shiz

I'm pretty sure we aren't allowed to have detectors here in aus, but of course, that doesn't stop us

well we were talking about radar... and explain to me why when I used a radar detector I got warnings around 30 seconds before the cop would have been able to shoot me while traveling in excess of 90mph?

becasue he was probably using an older style gun, or you were getting radared. the older guns burst in waves is certain frequencies, just like FM radio, using a method called the "dopler shift". that is why you might have gotten signal, because radar detectors detect that siganl just like your car radio they just operate on a different frequency. but we are talking about guns that are being phased out as fast as police can. so in a way yes a radar detector would be useful if your going through some small town, but as far as up to date state police cars you don't have a snowballs chance in hell without a scrambler. even the scrambles don't activate until they've been painted by laser, then they have LED's that emit IR pulses that confuse the police recievers. so if you want to be effective against cops using 80's technology buy a detector. you won't be half as safe as you would be with a jammer.

actually the way the laser works is it repeatedly hits your car back and forth and then calculates the distance traveled, which is then formulated to determine the speed at which you're travelling.
Now you're saying that the only way it can be detected is if it is aimed straight at the detector? Have you EVER used anything wireless? I mean i can point my TV remote at the wall and it still changes channels, so the laser doesnt need direct contact with the pickup eye of the detector, all it needs to do is enter the "field of vision" of the detector.
Some detectors with laser detecting capabilities have built in laser jammers/scramblers because it does require good timing to slow down after laser is detected. But laser is pretty rare as from what i've been told, and from what i've seen laser needs to be setup outside the police car and have a backup unit ready, so im pretty sure you should notice two cop cars with a tripod before you go flying by at 100, and if you dont notice them, then you deserve the ticket.
I've never seen a laser setup in my city and as of right now i drive for a living, and we have every type of cop you could believe patrolling our city (the passaic county sheriff's main office is in our town so sheriff's are everywhere, our police force recently was doubled in size due to our new classification as a "city", it's rather crazy.)
