they haven't passed crash test or emission testing as far as I know, I heard you would have to purchase like 4 of them so the gov't could do crash testing on, they you could own one, how about the skyline how did they get that over here? [/quote]

Yeah i'm thinking emission reasons will be a problem trying to get one over. But like I say, re-vinning to 93-95 might be the trick.

Well i have a way around this to, on the de-registration document it states year of manufacture, surely this could be changed when the vehicle is first registered to save vins being redone? What do you reckon?

The vin would be correct, when i register a vehicle in England it goes for testing and is booked in with the De-reg document and registered with the details held on there, i.e dimensions, weight, no. of doors, engine capacity and year on manufacture. The original could be sent with a duplicate with the year of manufacture changed to say a 1995 ( but it would be say a 1999 ). Do you think that would work? Are emissions testing different in different states? that could be the tricky area, although i could get emission figures for a 1999 for an english testing station. what do you reckon?

Yes the vins will need to match the american digit system they have setup. I had to do a pencil rubbing on my mini to verify the vin i gave them was the same on the car. Since they didn't have any kind of vin numbers that matched the mini they wanted the verification. So if you have some sort of a unusual style vin that isn't going to match US vins, they will be suspicious and more than likely order an inspection, which would result in them taking the car. But you could use an american vin and slap it on a Jap car, just tell them you converted it to RHD.

Surely their only way of registering or having any info on the car at all comes from the bil of lading ( shipping docs ) and the De-Reg document from Japan? There cant be any other way of the having any info at all on the vehicle, this is why i have each vehicle verified by a company in England to prove to my customers that the car is the year and mileage that i say it id. After all i could change the registration document myself to a newer car and make more money, because the de-reg document is what is registered on the UK DVLA computers.
