I think calling the cops and using the "I'm going to take matters into my own hands if you don't help" should bring them running. If the cops still seem unhelpful, I'd do some staking out of my own (maybe stay home from work some time or get a friend to help) and try to get the plates of the car they're in. Give the cops that information too. A dog is a great idea. I'd ask the wife what type of weapon she might feel most comfortable with and get her that...and some training.

 

well the good news is after we called the cops, someone else in town did also (they were driving 70-80mph through the MIDDLE of town, no exhaust, and after they went past us they headed out of town and they calloed out Highway Patrol, so I'm sure they won't be around for a bit.......I'm not sure how smart these ppl are but the first time they tried to break in, they couldn't get in, i know 6 year olds that could've got in if they wanted, I've remedied that problem as now my screen doors even have deadbolts, and they would have to make a LOT of noise to even get thru it...our windows are like 5-6 feet off the ground so i dun think that will be a problem.....I'll stick with the bat, if they do get in I'm sure I'm intimidating enough to suggest they leave, and if not, I play head baseball......Dog is next on the list, I have to find a good hearty breed that is good with kids...any suggestions are welcome..

Despite their reputation, rottweilers are incredibly docile around the homestead and great with children. I had a german rottweiler that was about 200lbs. Calm, predictable, harmless unless you or your family is in perceivable danger. Cody would mosey up to complete strangers and strech his neck to be scratched if any member of the family was accompaning the stranger.



The only time I saw any aggression out of him was when me and a good friend that Cody was familiar with were wrestling in the front yard(I think it started over him ******* on my rx7). Cody jumped our 6' fence breaking his leg and then continued to run down my friend. Jake(my friend) attempted to get out of the way and ended up getting a paw to the groin. Watching him turn blue in the fetal position sicked me to no end, I would have puked if it were not for the amusing look of shame on Cody's face as if he understood exactly what happened.



Anyways, Inaction is the only thing you can do wrong in this situation. Learn your local laws on self defence.

dogs are good. but do you want the extra cost? a shotgun is a good Idea. Yes the gun thing because of your kid..but a while ago I read a report that said a shotgun slide being worked was the most recognized sound on earth...people that herd it knew exactly what it was even if they hadn't seen one before...Many police that say if your going to have a firearm for home protection a shotgun is best to have. why because the sound is so well known you don't even have to load it just work the action..not only that but you can get less than lethal rounds for the shot gun...

german shepards are the greatest dogs ever aside from my mixed mutt who is fat and super cool haha german shepards are super good with kids and probably the last dog id want to **** with seriously ******* scary if they are mad.



other than that a shotgun, but i dont like the idea of kids+guns no matter how protected you may feel a kid doesnt know **** about guns except what he sees on tv and you all know what guns do on tv haha

my schnauzer is crazy he ripped the neighbours german sheppard a new one on numerous occasions. but he hates kids so thats not a good mix. i would personally get the shotgun with non-lethal rounds.

 

im agreeing with eric happy meal on this one cops dont like it when people try to do their job for them .... also you could go to wal-mart and get the servalence cameras for like 30 bucks i have one at my front door and you hook it to your tv when you hear somethin you turn the tv to the channel and audio and video play tap it into your vcr and tape it show it to the cops. the camera has a microphone built in its worth the money!

 

Get a shotgun with no ammo. That way kids cant hurt themselves, unless they drop it on their foot, and if a big angry guy cocked a shotgun and pointed it at my head, I am NOT going to stand around there for very long.
