A Question Of Ethics And Or Morality
#1
The first night I went back to work after moving into the new place (i work 3pm to 11pm) some idiots tried to break into our trailer, while just her and my 6 month old son were there, thank god my g-friend had the doors locked, we had the motion light on and everything, they HAD to know she was home, all the lights were on and her car was there and they tried to break in the front door when she was like 7 ft from it, now the car they were in that night, just passed my house twice (on the night they tried getting in they passed 3x then turned off the lights and parked), we have already called the county 5-0 (since we don't have a town cop in our little village), the question is, should i let them handle it if they do come back? Or do I go Midieval on their asses with my bat i have dubbed "The Peacemaker"?! I have a VERY sharp 4 inch lockblade also.....I don't care for guns in the house because of my son..

if you do go after them, you damn well better make your point because what if they decide to take it to the next level while you arent home? I understand the position on guns because of your son, but in the interest of protecting him, maybe your wife should have one.

Get a dog if you can get one without financial problems. Specifically a dog like a German Shephard, Doberman Pincher, Rottweiler, or Pit Bull. If all else fails, then protect your land with your blood.
If you can, move out of that place asap.

Taking matters into your own hands can lead to more trouble, if they get the best of you in a confrontation you may end up with the bat in your *** and your family cut to pieces, I'm not attacking you i'm simply making a point. A firearm for home protection keeps much more distance between you and the assailant(s) however a handgun wouldn't be the firearm of choice, a shotgun would be a much better application for home protection, because bottom line you don't want to miss; adrenaline + aiming = missed shots w/ a handgun, although this too can end up in the wrong hands and have the same outcome; harm to you and your family.
Either way you and your family could suffer from taking matters into your own hands, and with the laws the way they are today, If you brutally beat or kill the assaliant(s) you will most likely be separated from your family for an extended stay upstate, now, I'm not saying you should wait around for the cops to handle it, I myself have the pistol grip Mossberg behind the bedroom door loaded w/ OObuck and a 9mm Beretta in my dresser drawer, however, I would coax the cops into making a visit, just have the mrs. get on the horn and lie to the 911 operator " yes, there are ppl in the house my husband has a gun, my kids an I are huddled in the bedroom, please send help!"
There should be cops all over the place in minutes.

They've got to be on your property to legally kill them and presenting some sort of eminent danger.
Sounds to me like they are waiting for you to be gone, I'd arm the gf with a shotgun or a 38 cal revolver, something she can simply point and shoot and in the meantime keep calling the cops.

I like the idea of a dog, they're loud, and a burglar never knows the manner of the dog.
A weapon can be dangerous to have around, and nearly useless if the person using it doesn't have enough confidence or experience with that weapon. If you give the wife a gun, (or yourself even) be sure that she knows how to use it, go practice with it and such.
But yeah, wail away on the suckas if they get close enough.
