In response to the actual topic..
I think it's the primary purpose of a moderator to close threads that they find annoying, offensive, pointless.. If you don't like that, don't post. Most of these threads that are closed in GenD seem like they were created with the specific intention of 'getting to someone' and were rightfully eliminated. Threads closed in other forums are closed because the moderator thinks the discussion does not belong in his/her forum. It is the job of the moderator, in this case, to tend to the interests of the forum and it's content.

As I said before I think the moderating team does a generally fine job. I just don't think anyone wants to see the moderators turn into a thread-locking gestapo. I agree that some posters are remiss in following rules of basic human decency, and in those cases I would condone a moderator-administered public ***-whupping, but never a locked thread and the blockade it places on the high road of free speech.
